Print ShareThisFederal health experts say more restrictions are needed to protect teenagers from the cancer risks of tanning beds, including a potential ban for people under 18.
A panel of advisers to the Food and Drug Administration recommended Thursday that the agency put tighter controls on artificial tanning, ranging from requiring parental consent forms to banning the practice in younger teens.
"Given the absence of any demonstrated benefit, I think it's an obligation for us to ban artificial tanning for those under 18," said panelist Dr. Michael Olding.

Other members of the panel said the scientific evidence is not strong enough to warrant a total ban.
The FDA has regulated sunlamps for more than 20 years, but a recent report by the World Health Organization tied the devices to skin cancer, prompting a call for tougher rules.
The WHO analysis showed that the deadliest form of skin cancer increases 75 percent in people who use tanning beds in their teens and 20s.

Exactly what I was gonna say... 13 year old can have an abortion without notifying the parents but OMG tanning !!! Oh wait I get it African Americans don’t use the tanning salons right, so now it all makes sense.

The tanning bed tax is a racist tax that effects primarily White People. This must be unconstitutional on many levels. Wonder why we aren’t increasing the taxes on WEAVES and other ethnic salon treatments? hmmm
I meant that the country is now going to be micromanaged by the “nattering naybobs of nothingness”, looking to make a legislative name for themselves, just like NJ.
Tanning salons in most states are already regulated on things like amount of allowable UV Rays and amount of time one can spend in there.
Most parents I know don’t have a problem with their teens going to a tanning salon as long as they have inspected it first to make sure it’s perv free.
These are the same freaks that think 10 year olds are ready for sex and abortions.

A lot of gay men like to have tans so this might make them mad. But it’s true this is discriminatory against white people. Obama could use a tan, especially around election time when he’s pretending to be more black than white.
Whatever you say tanning beds are DEATHTRAPS! Any dermatologist will tell you this. Stay out of them especially if you are young. Leave John Boehner out of this...his tan is sprayed on.
