South Korean naval ship fired at an unidentified vessel to the north on Friday after a South Korean naval vessel began sinking, the Yonhap news agency reported. Broadcaster SBS said many sailors were feared dead on the stricken ship.

N.Korea vows nuclear attacks to defend its regime
I don't need to point out to even anyone who is but a casual observer of history, wars have been started over much less - much, much less.
So far 54 sailors rescued out of 104.
There is going to be a response by the SK government. That part of the western shore has been a hotbed for some time now.
May I also point out that the war never really ended, it’s only in armistice right now.
reading another forum a poster is reporting rescue efforts by the S.K. Navy have rescued for roughly half the crew.
it was long overdue for something to happen in the pacific.
1) Kim flexing muscle to south,..in the context of an untested U.S. president
2) See what the U.S. will do,..if nothing,..then point made,..and the South Korea could lose huge face.
Which i honestly don’t think they will let that happen. When you have dead sailors being pulled from the water...doesn’t make very good t.v. with the national population.
“Could this be our Generations Sinking of the Lucitania?
Wilson didn’t do didley squat about that....
And we prob won’t do didley squat about this...
“The event must have happened between 8 and 9pm EDT.”
Then we are about 15 hours post incident. Looks like some thought is going into the S. Korean response.
Maybe it should have been AM?
Even though this has nothing to do with Russia (or china) directly, it does have somewhat to do with the Coldwar2, and affects both Russia and China (and their potential threat to America).
Agreed!
i don’t think it was an accident.
but,..it was a horrible, geopolitical calculation.
That's absolutely true.
It's amazing how little space is being devoted to this at the websites of CNNMSNBC and even FNC, at least right now. You would think that the sinking of a naval vessel - probably the first such a sinking(by a torpedo) since the Falklands War - would be BIG news. I guess not.

BTW note the spike in gold and silver a few minutes later.

The incident occured 9 to 10am Korea time. That would equate to about 8 or 9pm EDT.
There were casualties on both sides, but no ship fully sank.
They have pictures of the vessel in the daylight sinking how is that possible.
we won’t. but south korea will. otherwise,..their govt might as well resign right now.
..of course,..the SK ship could have been something provocative near the coast,..collecting intell too close,..testing NK electronic defenses.
I wonder what Obama would do if this was a US vessel. Our naval presence around the Korean peninsula is robust. Opportunity would be plentiful.
Of course, it would be MUCH more difficult for a clackity old N. Korean submarine to get close enough to sink one of our ships. But, that doesn't mean that they wouldn't try.
(Again, presuming this was a NK sub) S. Korea is backed up against a wall here. They will have to do something, otherwise the current gov. will find their rear ends in the streets and maybe hanging from lamposts.
And I don’t think a token response is going to do. NK just sunk a major SK naval vessel and it sounds like upwards of half the crew (50) may have died. This is no minor incident. In fact, this may be the largest security incident in the Korean theater since Korean War hostilites ceased.
We (Obama that is) may sit on his hands. But the S. Koreans don’t have that luxury IMO.
much different this time. we have assets and boots on the ground in South Korea. It all depends if the South will listen to our President. if not then were involved whether the boy king wants us to be or not.
