Commie thugs are after Ann Coulter again!
An open letter to the University of Calgary regarding their staff member's plan to shut down the Ann Coulter speech:
Dear University of Calgary
I am writing to you about Jason Devine, who is an MA student at the University of Calgary. http://hist.ucalgary.ca/profiles/jason-corey-devine
I emailed the University a few weeks ago because the Calgary Anti-Racist Action, a group that Jason Devine leads, was conducting a postering campaign against a young, female student on your campus, claiming that she was associated with the Aryan Guard. It turned out that the first round of posters resulted in another young girl being harassed because people wrongly thought the poster was about her. Instead of learning from this that the result of the postering campaign would result in dangerous harassment, Devine's group simply re-worked the poster so that the victim could be more correctly identified, and started a new campaign. When I contacted campus security, my email was ignored.
Now Jason Devine has told the Montreal Gazette that he is organizing a group of ARA members to protest the Ann Coulter event tonight. He says, "If we can't stop it, we want people to know there are some people in Calgary who think it's unacceptable,"
In light of the riots in Ottawa two nights ago where anti-racists overturned tables, pulled a fire alarm and threatened violence until the police canceled the speech, Devine's stated intention to attempt to "stop" the event tonight, is alarming.

Jason Devine is a staff member of the University of Calgary, and he has an office on campus. If tonight's event comes to a violent end, the university will bear the full responsibility for his actions.
Perhaps you should consider keeping your "humanguerilla" in his cage before he causes you more embarassment.

Anytime any Canadian even comes close to stating or implying they have free speech, they should receive a slapdown.

Ms. Coulter should tell everyone the title of her speech is, “Holocaust, Real or Fiction?” and she wouldn’t have any problems whatsoever.
It’s pretty obvious the Canadian attacks are being coordinated with their counterparts in the DC area ~ probably right down to the point of firing bullets into Eric Cantor’s campaign office.

Students, members of the Student Federation of the University of Ottawa (SFUO) executive, and at least one U of O vice-president were inspired to take action against Coulter’s presence on campus because of her reputation for disseminating extremely controversial and outrageously conservative opinions. They insinuated Coulter would promote hate speech on campus and decided it would be in all students’ best interests to stifle her provocative rhetoric.

In doing so, they managed to insult about 35,000 students. That’s not an easy task. Are we so susceptible to contentious prose that we are incapable of determining the validity of an argument for ourselves? Now, instead of allowing U of O students the opportunity to weigh the strength of her arguments, or at least the opportunity to listen to the outrageousness of her claims, they have deprived students of an excellent opportunity for debate and learning.
We can think for ourselves, thank you.

Am I missing something? I thought I heard on FOX last night that Coulter’s speech had been cancelled. Looks to me like only leftists have “free speech” in Canada. Ann Coulter and Mark Steyn don’t.
Ezra Levant knows full well that speech in Canada requires lots of courtroom appearances.

Free speech victory in Whatcott v. Saskatchewan Human Rights Tribunal
CALGARY: The Canadian Constitution Foundation (CCF) today responded to the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal decision in Whatcott v. Saskatchewan Human Rights Tribunal, a case in which the CCF had intervened in support of free expression.
In a decision released February 25, the 3-member court ruled that William Whatcott did not violate section 14(1)(b) of the Saskatchewan Human Rights Code by distributing flyers to oppose the teaching of homosexuality in Saskatoon’s public schools.
The flyers distributed by Mr. Whatcott in Saskatoon and Regina in 2001 and 2002 were polemical and inflammatory, and the court noted in its decision that many people would find his words “crude, offensive, and pejorative.” The contents of the flyers are re-printed in the court’s decision, posted HERE.
No, we don’t have freedom of speech in Canada. If we did, we wouldn’t have had to move Free Dominion to Panama, and we wouldn’t be fighting three lawsuits right now over comments made on Free Dominion about the Canadian Human Rights Commission censorship legislation, and its most frequent user.
It’s only a matter of time before there are no Canadian conservative websites left. We’ve been fighting this for well over two years, but we can’t hold on forever.
If we had free speech in Canada, Whatcott wouldn’t have had to go in front of a Tribunal (and then a Court) because he passed out some pamphlets. His “free” speech cost him thousands of dollars in legal bills. That is not free.
Human rights commission “hate speech” legislation in Canada exists to punish people who haven’t broken the law. If they had violated the criminal or civil codes, they wouldn’t be in front of those tribunals.
If Ann Coulter was a left-wing whackjob who condemned the U.S. in the most scurrilous terms possible, she’d have no problem speaking in Canada.
