Proposed Meme: "Obamacare is Slavery"
March 24, 2010 | E. Pluribus Unum

We need to come up with something that summarize Obamacare and the damage it has done to the land of the free.

Comparing Obamacare to slavery seems completely legitimate and on-target, to me.

Am I wrong?

All welfare, including Obamacare, is slavery. Any policy that steals the fruit of one’s labor in order to give it to another who did NOT earn serves to enslave the party that earned it.

I was just thinking, the Second Civil War will be about slavery too. We Americans have become slaves to our government.

Obama just gave them 30 million new customers, and a great deal of Wall Street money no longer comes from traditional sources investment companies but from hedge funds, investment banking firms, and from government itself. It’s all about the short money, not long-term growth.

I don’t even have a soundbite platform. Nor do I want one. This is not about soundbites. This is about telling people the facts. If all you have is a meme, then you need to get more because your meme will be countered.

This is about telling people the facts.

That's pretty much what we've been doing.

Facts mean nothing to Obama's base. Obama's base just wants free stuff.

I think calling it slavery is overselling the case. Call it what it is, a Socialist boondoggle that will reduce freedom, and the quantity and quality of health care received for almost all Americans, while increasing costs exponentially.

Nobody has seen how strongly this thing is opposed. The effort to eliminate this requires a coordinated effort from religious, cultural, corporate organizations all synchronized to bring this movement down with overwhelming political, cultural, and economic force. There is no way to be secure from this thing by merely repealling it. This whole movement requires a systematic marginalization from every angle not only to erase these bills from existence, but to stop it’s influences in the media and education establishments. Uprooting the weeds that are peppering the entire yard will take alot of work from alot of people. It will take about 50 years of vigilant, massive effort to get this nation back to some type of viable restoration. Politically deballing this president and replacing this congress is just a small starting point.

If you pay the fine you can. I despise HusseinCare, but calling it “slavery” is going to cause people to roll their eyes, not join the fight.

As perverse as this sounds, I believe our salvation will be in the economic collapse that is about to envelop us.

People who have depended upon the government's proverbial "safety net" will be in deep doo-doo. People who have prepared by stocking up on food and other necessities will survive. People who have not prepared will have to turn to crime, and that could be very dangerous for them.

It won't be fun, but for those people who manage to survive five or ten years, it will be a new beginning.

If you pay the fine you can.

And you believe that the fine will remain low because?

And that there won't be prison time to go along with it, if you have non-protected skin-color status?

You haven't noticed that they "change" anything they want anytime they want?

Not true, as far as I can discern. The public service componenet is a voluntary trade for loan forgiveness in just 10 years, not a universal mandate. If you have a primary source of information that backs up your view, I would be glad to know it.

It is the truth. The cold, hard truth. And we should be pushing to make sure that everyone gets the essential point of that truth - it needs to go viral.

If the Deathtax bill exceeds the healthcare costs, will the government decide you are more valuble to societ dead?

that depends on your skin color and political affiliation.

Again, I hate HusseinCare, but it is no more “slavery” than having to work half the year or more to pay state, local and Federal taxes.

All Socialism has an element of “slavery” to the state, but IMO this approach to fighting it will be ineffective. If you want to call it slavery, go right ahead. I’ll agree to disagree with you on the effectivness of it.

How many people actually recognize that phrase?

Recall the morons in the Clinton administration came up with “Operation Desert Fox”.

A meme won’t help those people either. Like you said, they just want freebies. Those ‘Obama’s stash’ people. Beyond help.

Republicans should put forth an amendment to say that if you pay into this system for the several years before the benefits come into effect and then you die before you are able to reap ANY benefits, you get all your money refunded.

It would appear that we have already failed.

People understand and want freedom. If we've failed to explain how this limits freedom, that's our fault.

Explaining isn't the problem. You can explain all you want, but that doesn't mean anybody will listen.

If people won't listen, bumper-sticker slogans are not going to help. Again, the failure is in explaining why this matters. The GOP did the worst possible job trying to explain this.

I have not found that people won't listen. I have found that people haven't heard a persuasive argument.

This is basically what I've told people, and I've changed more than a few minds:

"Take a look at England to see what happens when the government has a financial interest in your health. Everything comes down to cost. Not freedom, not saving lives. It comes down to money.

In England, we see the government banning what they consider "dangerous" behaviors, foods and activities. It's extremely cost effective to control your life. It's frighteningly easy to pass restrictive laws and collect fines from violators.

It's equally cost effective to deny you coverage when you are a liability instead of a person. England has a lower breast cancer survival rate than many other countries because they strictly limit the types of drugs available to women. It all comes down to cost. You are no longer a person with rights. You are an entry on a balance sheet. Your children are entries on a balance sheet.

There are other dangers, as well. As we've seen in England and other places with universal health care, the government didn't stop with legislating food or dangerous behaviors.

In England and Canada, they regulate speech. They regulate your ability to defend yourself. They regulate your relationship with your children. In much of Europe, you have no right to decide how your children are educated.

It all makes sense in a way. Since you've handed over some of the most important aspects of your life - your health - why should the government trust you with the rest of your life?

The freedoms we take for granted, eating what we like, caring for our children, raising our families to believe what we believe; all of that begins to erode the moment we hand over health care to the government. Is that what you want for your children? Is that what you want for their children?"

I agree that we need to do "something" about health care. But "something" doesn't mean handing it over to the government, so that we're no longer people. "Something" doesn't mean that we sell our children's futures.

I have convinced more than one person with the above. It took longer than a few seconds, but most worthwhile things do.

According to Wikipedia, “Slavery (also called thralldom) is a form of forced labour in which people are considered to be the property of others.”

Whereas Obamacare compels the laborer to expend work effort to obtain wages to buy a good of the government’s choosing, on pain of fines and or imprisonment,

Whereas Obamacare compels the laborer to expend work effort to obtain wages to pay for the murder of unborn children,

Whereas Obamacare compels the laborer to surrender earning capacity if as a matter of conscience the laborer refuses to participate in the ritual killing of unborn children,

Whereas Obamacare grants the state the right to arbitrarily intervene in the child-rearing practices of the laborer at will and without due process of law,

Whereas Obamacare treats the laborer’s private medical data as if it were the public property of the state,

Whereas Obamacare grants the state the right to decide for the laborer what the valuation of said laborer’s life shall be to the collective,

Whereas each of the foregoing accusations show the government to be compelling labor toward ends adverse to the interests of the laborer,

Whereas each of the foregoing accusations show the government to be treating the laborer as mere chattel to be used and disposed of as the government sees fit,

Be it therefore resolved that Obamacare is slavery. The only difference between Obamacare and the pre-Civil War slavery in the South is the degree to which external coercion is imposed. The premise is the same.
