Amish, Muslims to be excused from Obamacare mandate?
American Thinker ^ | March 24, 2010 | Wordwayze

Apparently, this exemption will apply similarly to believers in Islam, which considers health insurance - and, for that matter, any form of risk insurance - to be haraam (forbidden).

Islamic Web site managed by Sheikh Muhammed Salih Al-Munajjid, various fatwas (religious decrees) absolutely forbid Muslim participation in any sort of health care or other risk insurance:

So - car insurance/home insurance are 'risk insurance."

Are they then allowed to own cars and drive without insurance? Are they allowed mortgages w/o insurance?

If they are not and if they DO buy these insurances -then no exception should be allowed - and if they ARE allowed exemption - than NO free/subsidized health care.

The Amish have NEVER bought health care - they always have paid out of pocket from individuals /community. Likewise, they carry no mortgages so are not required to carry home insurance - don't know about insurance that may be required for their buggies. But their philosophy is pay-as-you-go - not the Islamic prohibition of not buying risk insurance.

They never have, nor would they, take free health care from the gov't. They should not be made to pay. They are independent of gov't. Smart people.

NOW - an idea/question: If indeed wide segments of citizens are going to be made exempt - is this not against "equal protection" under the law?

OR - can we not, by the millions, establish a religion that prohibits buying GOVERNMENT MANDATED insurance?

(One would be far better off to mostly go to Natureopaths (who are medically trained as a doctor also) and pay cash for most treatment. After 8 years of paying doctors, hospitals, specialists from Maine to Canada to Texas to Florida (military) to find out what was wrong with my granddaughter, one $50 one-drop blood test with a Natureaopathe at a health fair immediately diagnosed the problem and from day one, after, no more daily pain and weak health. That is a far less expensive route. But you will not see natureopathy covered. BECAUSE it's so inexpensive)

Since they don’t “pay” for Medicaid, it’s acceptable.

Seriously, did ANYONE read this article? I have read four posts that are answered in the article.

That's not what the article said.

It is not made clear whether or not it is religiously okay to accept "free" non-insured medical care such as that offered in hospital ERs and to some who are covered by Medicaid.

Yes, I saw that in the article, I just wanted to vent. We have a son with a chronic medical condition and my husband had to pick up a third job to be able to make payments on our medical bills. So, I get irritated that we pay taxes for their “free” medical care that they can get just as soon as they arrive in the USA.

Why not get the forms and file for the exemptions?? At least we can keep the IRS busy and help slow down the bureaucracy. What if 10 million people put in the applications? Great way of civil disobedience.

I’m old enough to remember the 1967 Israeli victory following the Six Day War, after which Cassius Clay changed his name from Muhammad Ali to Morris Steinberg.

Looks like an opportunity for a lawsuit. Equal protection under the law.

Wow, devote Muslims consider any form of risk insurance haraam, who knew?

I guess the OmamaCare bill still leaves 30 million people without health care insurance in America. Why did Congress and him spend a year getting this bill rammed down our throats?

Not really. The Amish don’t accept government privileges and are therefore not bound by those laws which attach to a person based on status: no licenses, no retirement, no subsidies... That makes them the last surviving real Americans.

I am a Christian, and the notion of government managed health care is exceedingly offensive to my religious sensibilities.

Where is my exemption?

How do Muslims get cars registered without insurance?

In the UK:

Muslim drivers are, for the first time, being offered insurance that obeys the teachings of the Koran.
Salaam Halal Insurance provides the same services as conventional companies but it is compliant with Islamic law. This means it cannot invest in any organisation associated with gambling, alcohol or pork. It is also not allowed to take financial risks or speculate with revenue.
Halal insurance – known as takaful – differs from standard British products because the risk is shared between policyholders. Drivers pay into a fund, which is then invested in sharia-compliant ventures and any profits are put back into the fund.
Claims are paid from the pooled sum and any surplus cash is distributed in the form of a discount for the following year’s premium. This is in addition to any conventional no-claims bonus.

Sounds like a violation of the Core-ran to me since it's still insurance by another name. I wonder how these folks are going to get into paradise if no one in their family dies in jihad and gets them in as one of the 72 family menbers atones for?

Regards

But their philosophy is pay-as-you-go - not the Islamic prohibition of not buying risk insurance.

From what I understand (and I admit I'm no expert) the Amish also have strict rules concerning the interference of government in their private and religious lives. Even if they did have some form of "health plan" (there are systems other than insurance), they still wouldn't accept a government-run version.

Again, I'm no expert, this is based on my somewhat limited understanding of what I've been finding while researching the Mennonite church.

If some Amish are traveling and their vehicle gets into an accident they will go the hospital same as others
