North Korean leader Kim Jong Il ‘has chronic kidney failure’

The North Korean leader Kim Jong Il is suffering from kidney failure which requires dialysis and also has partial paralysis following a 2008 stroke, according to the head of a South Korean state research institute.

Nam Sung-Wook, director of the Institute for National Security Strategy, said the paleness of Mr Kim's fingernails indicates the 68-year-old leader has chronic kidney disease.

The institute has links to South Korea's National Intelligence Service. Mr Nam's remarks, in a speech at a Seoul forum, were quoted by South Korea’s Yonhap news agency and were confirmed by the organisers of the event.

"Chairman Kim Jong-Il is suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure and we believe he is undergoing kidney dialysis every two weeks," Mr Nam said. "[The pale colour of] his nails indicates he has chronic kidney failure."

Mr Nam showed photographs of Mr Kim to illustrate his point. The North's official Korean Central News Agency frequently releases colour photos of the leader.

The guy is in dialysis. This condition dramatically raises the risk of stroke, according to what I read. Indeed he had a stroke last year. After that, he is known to suffer from bouts of post-stroke depression. His doctors recommended that he should be more active to shake out his lapse into depressive mood, which prompted him to do more on-site guidance tour. However, against his doctors' advice, he started smoking. He is also occasionally drink heavily at public event to show that he is alright. I heard that smoking and drining are really killer for stroke victims.

The guy is due for another stroke in near future.

At this point, given what’s in store for Dear Leader, he’s right to be depressed.

Outstanding! Having worked with many,*many* kidney failure patients over many years I know that they have a *very* difficult life and *seldom* live very long on dialysis.

Couldn't happen to a more deserving guy.Let's hope he doesn't force his fellow countrymen to suffer (and die) along with him.

Don’t worry, he will be fine. North Korea has an excellent socialized medical system that 0bama seeks to emulate.

After the way Kim has treated people I’m suprised they have’t already pulled the plug on the little turd. Once someone takes over his duties I fully expect they will “forget” to give him his meds and dialysis. Enjoy your stay in hell Kim......

Do we know if Castro is still alive either? The trouble with rumors in Communist countries is most of them are started by the authorities to keep their opponents off guard.
