(OREM) A former advisor to British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher says scientists and the media have falsified data and exaggerated conclusions suggesting that mankind is behind climate change. Speaking at a forum at Utah Valley University on Tuesday, Lord Christopher Monckton attacked a Brigham Young University geochemistry professor and his colleagues, who have taken state lawmakers to task for over-relying on climate skeptics, like himself, for their information. He accused the BYU scientists of being terrified of non-political and scientific arguments refuting mainstream climate science and said post-normal science is being practiced the way science was done under Hitlers Germany. Steve Nelson, one of the BYU scientists Monckton criticized, was invited to attend the free event but was a no-show. He commented that Moncktons hyperbole speaks for itself. Monckton also took jabs at former Vice President Al Gore, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and the Salt Lake Tribune and said the GOP will sweep the November general elections.
Thank you for the info, but in my estimation, liberalism is vastly (and by a large margin) more dangerous and damaging to this country than Mormons are. Nearly EVERY single thing I take issue with in this country has its roots in liberalism, and that is who I choose to do battle with.
When the Mormons begin telling me what to eat, how much water can flush from my toilet, how much gas mileage my car can get, how much of my money must go to the NEA, PBS and ACORN, where we can and cannot drill for oil, how many guns I can own and how I can use them, then I will begin to pay attention to them.
So you don’t think Mormon professors who teach Mormon students, who support Al Gore’s myth aren’t doing that now?
Just by their support of such a myth as AGW they are complicit in those efforts to do just what you mentioned.
They are also complicit in perpetuating those myths by teaching those myths to their LdS students. They are creating LdS liberals, ala Harry Reid.
I have a life now that I have left Mormonism, thank you.
Sunday I attend the Christian service of my choice, at the location of my choice, at the time of my choice. Then i go home and spend the rest of the day with my family, instead of Ward Welfare meetings, Ward Council meetings, Ordinations, etc, etc, etc from 6 am until 9 pm.
Monday I spend time with my kids, not preparing for and teaching some iron fisted "family home evening" lesson from some LDS brainwashing manual.
Tuesday I cook my family dinner, or maybe take them out to a movie instead of attending Bishopric meetings until 10 pm.
Wednsday I have dinner with my family and help them with thier homework, instead of rushing them all over to Scouts, Young womens activities etc.
Thursday I eat and talk to, play with and generally love my family instead of performing 300 baptisms for the dead in the Temple.
Friday nights I watch a movie or go for a walk or bike ride with my family instead of scrambling to get my home teaching done, and staying up late to prepare my talk for Sunday.
Saturday I take care of my home with the help of my family, shovel snow, mow lawns, fix cars etc, WITH MY FAMILY, instead of sitting in 4 hours of Bishopric training meetings (held at the local hotel conference room instead of in the church building so the stuff taught to us is kept secret from the members) followed by performing temple recommend interviews and standing tithing audits until way after dark.
You see, in the end, because I believe that "Family, it's about time"...I left Mormonism.
I have a life,...Do you ?
Heaven forbid, the mormons should to environmentalism.
...Utah Valley University...
When did that happen?
My point is that they are a 7 million member (in the US) voting block, as well as a ~TRILLION dollar corporation itching to make another buck.
Harry Reid has told you all that you mentioned already. He is the current darling of the LDS church.
They are a cult, and their members do what they are told, blindly.
Beware the beast if they turn to environmentalism.
My understanding is he spoke last night.
I would love to have a beer with Lord Monckton.
The guy is frigging great.
My understanding is he spoke last night.
I'm sorry. I meant "when did Utah Valley Community College become Utah Valley University?"
Jeez, those people at BYU need to have a drink and lighten up!
Sure, I agree those Mormon professors are preaching garbage to their impressionable Mormon students. But I think there are 100 or 1000 times that many liberal professors of every other faith (or non-faith)doing just that to THEIR students of some faith (or non-faith).
I don’t give a rats patootie about Mormons. There are some people who think they are evil incarnate, but I can’t be bothered with it when 99.85% of the people trying to destroy my freedom are NOT Mormons.
To me, I only have so much of my attention to spread around. It’s a matter of scale to me. Others, well, I think to some of them it IS important, and power to them.
I just don’t care about them.
Amen!
What about the State Universities?
I’m not looking at them at all, church or not. I simply don’t care about them.
It is a matter of scale to me. How many voting members of Congress are Mormons? That is how I see it. If it were >25-40%, then I might think differently. But last time I looked, they were a very small minority, 13 out of 535, which is a total of 2.4%. Even if they vote as a monolithic block in the House and Senate, it doesn’t worry me.
But it is clear that some people are worried about Mormons. I just don’t have that much energy to expend on them, that’s all.
Yeah, those were U of U geniuses. Not that the valley of the annointed doesn’t have its share, too.
I agree 100%...the guy is an anti-global-warming stud! And, funny to boot. I have watched a few of his lectures.
I read your response above, indicating you left the Mormon church...I understand how you would feel differently about it than I would. But, as I said, as long as I don’t have to be one, and their effect on my life is limited to non-existent, then I want to direct my energies elsewhere.
And by the way...thanks for your service. As an ex-swabbie, I can still say “Thank God for the USMC” and not feel that I have denigrated anyone else by not acknowledging them...:)
I understand your point, my point is that Mormons are constantly held up as prime examples of conservatism and how we should all try to emulate their values, when, instead, they are just like any other group.
BYU is strictly managed by the LdS church. Nothing is taught there without their approval. No speakers are allowed without their approval(Harry Reid), etc.
I don’t go for the white wash about what such “good people” all the Mormons are. There are good folks in Mormonism, but not all Mormons are good.
They’re going to do what many do. My point is that Mormons are always being held up as the example of what true conservatism looks like. Instead, they are just like any other group. There are liberals among them.
BYU is managed by the LdS church. Nothing happens there unless prior approval has been secured by the LdS leaders.
If, as it appears, that SLC LdS Headquarters has approved of this instructional material and is helping to perpetuate the myth of AGW by allowing it to be taught, then they deserve to be ridiculed.

I certainly don’t subscribe to that viewpoint, either, that all Mormons are white as the driven snow, because I know firsthand they aren’t.
