Repeal Mediscam
Human Events ^ | 03/23/2010 | Sen. Jim DeMint

Posted on 03/24/2010 2:50:24 AM PDT by SmokingJoe

There is no fixing President Obama’s healthcare takeover that was jammed through on a partisan vote with secret deals, kickbacks and carve-outs. This Mediscam bill must be repealed.

The Democrats promised their bill would reduce the deficit, decrease healthcare costs and lower insurance premiums. It does the opposite by exploding our national debt and raising $569.2 billion in new taxes in their quest to control one-sixth of the economy. Worse yet, it imposes an unconstitutional mandate on Americans and permits the government funding of abortion.

All of this was done in the face of overwhelming public outrage and bipartisan opposition in Congress. This process has been an insult to our democracy and threatens our nation’s prosperity and freedom.

The Democrats lied to Americans about the true cost of Mediscam by using Bernie Madoff-style accounting tricks to hide the trust cost of their takeover.

Mediscam takes money from other unfunded entitlement programs. It raids $52 billion from Social Security. It cuts nearly $500 billion from Medicare and doesn’t count the hundreds of billions needed to compensate doctors who treat elderly patients. It adds millions of people to Medicaid, a failing program that many doctors and pharmacists refuse to participate in. Medicaid won’t do its patients any good if a doctor won’t treat them or a pharmacist won’t fill their prescriptions.

To pay a portion of the new costs, ObamaCare will takeover student loans. President Obama will shut down private lenders this summer, sell expensive loans to 19 million college students and use the profits to finance “ObamaCare.” It also taxes companies that manufacture medical devices, like Pacemakers, stifling innovation in the very sector that provides Americans with life-saving goods.

Government bureaucrats are now preparing to dictate the terms of our healthcare system. President Obama’s law says Americans must purchase Washington-formulated insurance plans or pay stiff penalties, a requirement that defies the Constitution and is a boon to the insurance companies the Democrats pretend to despise.

The law calls for an expansion of the Internal Revenue Services. A new branch that I call the “Internal Medical Service” will hire thousands of people to track down and penalize Americans who don’t comply with the new rules.

Americans objected to this takeover at every turn, peacefully protesting for over a year and begging their leaders not to take away their healthcare freedom. They asked for common-sense solutions such as buying health insurance across state lines, stopping frivolous lawsuits that drive up costs, and giving the same tax breaks to those who don’t get insurance from employers.

Washington didn’t listen.

When a President and a Congress collude to violate the Constitution and ignore the American people, everything our nation stands for is at risk.

Mediscam won’t deliver what was promised and will cost Americans far more than the country can afford. Thankfully, most of the plan doesn’t go into effect until 2014.

It’s not too late to undo the damage. There’s still time to stop it.

I introduced a bill to repeal this monstrosity after President Obama signed it into law. Tens of thousands of Americans are supporting this effort. I posted a petition to repeal the bill, at www.repealitpledge.com, late Sunday evening after the House passed it the bill. And more than 50,000 people have already signed it, pledging to support conservative candidates in 2010 who vow to repeal President Obama’s healthcare takeover.

We can repeal this bill by repealing Democrats in November.

Why can't all GOP congressmen be like DeMint and Michelle Bachmann? Here we had bloody John Cornyn out there talking nonsense about not repealing this fraudulent abomination and actively undermining our efforts. It's just plain ridiculous.

When you see a horror story about TerriSchiavoCare that does NOT have anything to do with abortion, remember: This is a horror that the Catholic bishops were in FAVOR of.

I just signed the pledge - it’s up to nearly 120,000 by now.

Yes, but where was this sentiment early on? Seems to me they were all trying not to stop it, but to make it a bit more ‘centrist’.
Were they afraid of losing some of their own benefits if they made a real reform bill? Are they not savvy enough to even come up with their own shell of a bill with tort reform, more equitable payments from the govt for medicare and medicaid, and the other places where real reform is needed and will make a difference.

Instead, they just go along for the ride until the fire gets too hot. Just because they are in the minority doesn't mean they have to abdicate their principles and keep their opinions to themselves.

You are talking about the wrong guy here. DeMint has been hard core for stopping 0bamacare from get get go. And is hard core for repealing 0bamacare today. He's been very consistent in the right direction.

I don’t know if the GOP ever drafted a bill independently. It wouldn’t have gotten out of committee. They do say on their website what their broad goals would be for reforming the health care system.

And I do think there is a strategery (apologies to George W. Bush) here. The GOP wanted the Democrats to immolate themselves, knowing what witches and warlocks they had become. They might well have done it.

re: I just signed the pledge

Me too. But you know, the time for signing pledges, sending emails, making calls to legislators, turning en masse at town hall meetings, streaming into DC to express our discontent, etc. is over. We tried, and how we tried. But in the end we were lied to and ignored.

I don't know what's next, but we need to figure it out and get busy doing it.

I fear violence is in our future. Not on the part of us who are so discouraged and demoralized by the realization that those running the country right now ignore the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, but rather from those of the entitlement society whose programs and benefits are going to be seriously curtailed when we run out of credit and ink for the presses. The word unsustainable is overused these days but there isn't a better one to describe situation our country's finances are in these days.

In a perverse sort of way I think a message is being sent by the number of firearms that are being purchased, the universal shortage of ammunition and the huge increase in applications to legally carry a concealed weapon. Of course all of this is a direct threat to society, unlike the millions of street thugs who have armed themselves over the years without worrying about the legality of their carrying habits</sarcasm>

Even if the road we are on under this administration and Congress didn't lead straight to disaster it would be a road that I would not choose.

My $0.02 is that it would be well to plan to head off Rat cheating at the polls which will be tried in every foul way, such as corrupting the election offices, letting the likes of Black Panthers prowl the polling places, etc. Also chew the ear off any RINO that even thinks about amnesty. I think Obama stuck his big fat foot about as deep in it as he could and if the public is allowed a fair answer it will be HELL, NO!

I wouldn’t argue that point with you at all but a lone voice from afar is difficult to hear. Why weren’t they speaking as one. I’m just frustrated with everyone who espouses so so many principles when they want your vote, then when we want them to vote, it is like trying to nail jello to a tree, no structure, no form, no staying where it is supposed to be.

You can only vote the number of seats you have. Until Scott Brown, there was nothing Republican could do that was able to stop any Democratic Party bill.
DeMint has been the strongest force against 0bama in the US Senate.

I hear you. And my perspective is probably affected by Evan Bayh and his ability to project himself as a family man with “Hoosier” values to get elected and then get to Washington and vote with the Dems each time. And now he will probably run for prez with that same ‘family man’ portrait. He was a spender as governor, and has followed suit in Wash. But Lugar has just changed his stripes. He’s a Rep but I hear he gets as much or more lobbyist money from liberals.

We need to do more than vote name recognition here in Indiana.

John Boehner said if the GOP wins the House he pledged to DEFUND it. It needs to happen then repeal, sue, gut, destroy, immolate, wreck, sabotage and kill ObamaCare.

I fear violence is in our future.

The FBI and ATF do not have enough firepower or agents to take us all on. And they know it.

Please consider that the bill took almost a year to pass even though the Dems had a majority in both branches of Congress and the White House.

Republicans like DeMint have been fighting this from the get-go. In fact, it was DeMint who fired the first shot on this by predicting it would be Obama's Waterloo.

I have confidence in the courts, the states, and the people that this thing won't see the light of day.

I wonder if ANY college students realize that this is going to cost them, ON AVERAGE, an EXTRA $1700 [over what they pay now] during the life of the loan ???
