Late Sunday night, in a narrow and partisan vote, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the most significant piece of social legislation in over seven decades. It did so in the face of overwhelming and principled opposition from the American people. Large majorities of Americans oppose this legislation because it offends the historic American dedication to the principle of self-government. They understand that this new law will accelerate Washington's intrusion into our most personal and private decisions.
This is why opposition to this bill will only grow. Supporters of this bill argue that popular hostility will recede upon its passage. But, rather than cementing our descent into a European-style welfare state, last night's passage of Obamacare is best seen as a historic turning point, a true catalyst for real change.
I write to reassure our supporters, the conservative movement, and the American people at large that The Heritage Foundation will do all within its power to keep this issue alive in the public square and make the intellectual case for the repeal of this act. We will bring all our resources to bear on behalf of those who believe America is and will always remain the Land of the Free.
This, rest assured, can be done. The American people are never permanently thwarted. President Obama's health care legislation can and will be repealed.

If there is one good thing about the past year - one in which we have witnessed unprecedented horse-trading, press stunts, midnight votes and political manipulation in both houses of the U.S. Congress - it is that the American people have come away educated as never before about the differences between these two visions for America.

Yeah,what he said.
I think insurance companies would go broke if they took people with pre-existing conditions. That like getting into a car accident and then calling state farm and asking for coverage for the accident.
I am sure there are people who do that all the time.
If your last sentence was a comment to me, you are overly rude and must think quite highly of yourself. You must be perfect and never question anything because you have all the answers. How pompous and arrogant that is.
Insurance companies have ALWAYS rejected pre-existing condions. Always.

Don't Get Demoralized, Get Organized! Take back the 20!

With the president signing this unwanted and transformative government takeover of our health care system today with promises impossible to keep, let's not get discouraged. Don't get demoralized. Get organized!
We're going to reclaim the power of the people from those who disregarded the will of the people. We're going to fire them and send them back to the private sector, which has been shrinking thanks to their destructive government-growing policies. Maybe when they join the millions of unemployed, they'll understand why Americans wanted them to focus on job creation and an invigorated private sector. Come November, we're going to print pink slips for members of Congress as fast as they've been printing money.
We're paying particular attention to those House members who voted in favor of Obamacare and represent districts that Senator John McCain and I carried during the 2008 election. Three of these House members are retiringfrom Arkansas's 2nd district, Indiana's 8th district, and Tennessee's 6th districtbut we'll be working to make sure that those who replace them are Commonsense Conservatives. The others are running for re-election, and we're going to hold them accountable for this disastrous Obamacare vote. They are: Ann Kirkpatrick (AZ-1), Harry E. Mitchell (AZ-5), Gabrielle Giffords (AZ-8), John Salazar (CO-3), Betsy Markey (CO-4). Allen Boyd (FL-2), Suzanne M. Kosmas (FL-24), Baron P. Hill (IN-9), Earl Pomeroy (ND-AL), Charlie Wilson (OH-6), John Boccieri (OH-16), Kathy Dahlkemper (PA-3), Christopher Carney (PA-10), John M. Spratt, Jr. (SC-5), Tom Perriello (VA-5), Alan B. Mollohan (WV-1), and Nick J. Rahall II (WV-3).
We'll aim for these races and many others. This is just the first salvo in a fight to elect people across the nation who will bring common sense to Washington. Please go to sarahpac.com and join me in the fight.
Stand tall, America. Real change is coming!

This is serious now. Democrats, liberals, leftists and those who share their views have become enemies of liberty.
People cannot sign up for individual plans if they are excluded in the first place. These people may be eligible for some type of government insurance in certain cases. But with the new health care legislation, we will see gaming of the system in ways we have never seen before. Private plans will be doomed to failure because of premium caps and virtually unlimited coverage requirements. This is, by the way, by design!
Do you support liberty or do you support big government tyranny?
Repeal, a total wipe out, of the bill is the only solution. I will only support candidates who have the guts to stick to this position.
Thanks Fawn....
Tort reform is something to be considered for certain but at least in my state there seems to be effective tort reform because juries simply don’t make the big awards anymore the way they used to. Insurance companies now will admit liability for their client but offer a ridiculous lowball settlement and refuse to do any better without a long drawn out process because they know that people cannot depend on a huge jury award any longer.
There is a lot more I would say but I am not a physician and people would say I don’t know what I am talking about. Maybe I don’t but I have spent a lot of time researching medical matters and I will just say that I think we are being had in some areas. My practice now is to do everything I can to safeguard my own health. I think it very likely that my own careless habits brought on my diabetes and I am trying to defeat it by better habits. I have no real symptoms other than a slightly elevated blood sugar but I don’t want to sample the other symptoms.
The insurance companies have very good investigators.
I've read this thread through reply 111 and see no mention of this. Apologies if it has been covered. And correct me if I'm wrong.
If you are fit and healthy, do not want to buy health insurance, and just want to pay cash for any medical needs you may have in the future, YOUR GOVERNMENT BY LAW SOON WILL BE ABLE TO LEVY A FINE ON YOU AND TURN YOUR CASE OVER TO THE IRS FOR ENFORCEMENT AND COLLECTION.
This is not the America I know.
i don’t understand this pre-existing clause either.
my first husband and i had health ins. thru his employer. after he died i had to shop for private ins. i found one i could afford. because of a recurring infection i had fought for about a year, they told me they would not cover that problem for one year. after that they would cover it. no problem, i got over the infection and they covered any similar problems thereafter.
fast forward 10 years. hubbymayhem and i adopted our daughter from china. she had what the chinese called hemangioma on her face. no problem. our (again employer based) ins. says they will cover this and not consider it pre-existing condition. turned out to be a harmless port wine stain and dermatologist says case closed.
i personally have never had a problem with this and do not understand what is the deal with this pre-existing condition thing?
I have a friend whose husband died following a long illness and time on disability. No one will insure her or her young adult son. She is insulin dependent and he has mental health issues.
Playing devil's advocate, I would say that's why they put in a mandate for everyone to buy insurance, in exchange for not letting the insurance companies pick and choose, or drop you when you need it most.

I think you are 100% correct. However, consider the following situation:
A man works twenty years at Company 1 and pays premiums for twenty years to Aetna through payroll deduction. In year 21 he contracts diabetes. Aetna covers it. Then Company 1 shuts down and he loses his job. The next day the same guy goes to work across the street at Company 2 that also uses Aetna for healthcare insurance. Aetna won't insure him because he has a pre-existing condition. Is that fair to the man? In my book it stinks. In his type of situation I agree with post #2.
Yes, I am trying to stay healthy too....eating better, exercise, etc. Sleep is my downfall....that’s important for good health too! Hope you can get your diabetes under control.
That’s interesting....so honesty pays off :)
I didn’t understand it either, thats why I stuck my neck out and asked....the thread has alot of good information.
