Sarah Palin near deal for reality show ("Sarah Palin's Alaska")

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – Sarah Palin is close to a deal for her travelogue reality show.

Sources say Discovery Communications has edged out rival A&E Networks in the bidding for the project, "Sarah Palin's Alaska." An agreement could be announced in the next few days.

It's still undecided which network in the Discovery suite would air "Alaska," which is being produced by Mark Burnett Productions.

Although travelogues are on-brand for the Discovery flagship, having Palin as a centerpiece also makes the show a fit for mom-friendly TLC. Clearly nature docs are still viable for the company -- Discovery's latest effort in the genre, the miniseries "Life," just debuted to 11.8 million viewers on Sunday night.

In her numerous TV appearances, Palin has proven she can draw an audience. Yet her show won't come cheap. The former Alaska governor's asking price was $1.2 million per episode. A network paying anywhere close to that figure would make "Alaska" one of the most expensive nature series ever produced.

They keep calling this a “reality show”. Sounds a lot more like a documentary or travelogue to me.

I want to see something like the old Marlin Perkins show, have Sarah sneaking up on grizzies, riding a caribou in a two piece swimsuit, hiking thru the growing glaciers in search of wildflowers, yaknow, that kind of stuff.

Good Luck, Sarah.

You beat me to it. Since when has a documentary become a ‘reality’ show?

Dems = debenture

I think travelogue is a good name for it too.

but it will be called a launching pad for the WH by the media and dems and Rinos, oh well.

Great PR for Alaska; not sure about corresponding ‘PR’ for Sarah & White House. . .

They keep calling this a “reality show”.

It's almost like they want to sabotage her and make her seem trashy and tawdry and not worth paying attention to. And they talk about the money a lot. Almost like they want to portray her as a gold digger who refuses to do TV projects for free. The nerve!

Accurately reporting that she is simply promoting one of the 50 states and that she is receiving a fair market wage after two networks completed bidding on her role in the project wouldn't advance their agenda, I suppose.

I'm with you.,,
If she really is the candidate for 2012, shouldn't her efforts and attentions be in directed elsewhere?

Have her introduce her friend McCain to the local wildlife. Maybe a polar bear will eat the stinking RINO.

The bear might get AIDS if he eats MCCain’s pal Graham-nesty.

The reality is that it's not a reality show -and them continuing to use this thinly disguised attempt to smear Sarah will work against them in the long run.

People know it's a lie, but even the people who go along with it will start to realize that THEY can never know when they're being lied to about what.

This will make Sarah look good.

It won't be a “reality show”, with all that connotes.

There are thousands of pointy-headed intellectuals, who would kill for the opportunity of hosting a Discovery channel documentary.

Smart move by her. #1 - she raises money which is needed in politics. #2 She shows off Alaska which is an amazing place.

The only stupid thing she is doing is hanging with scum RINOs like McCain - wake up. BTW - I supported her when she was in the NRA with other ladies back in the Clinton era.

are we going to be staring at slick mitt on every thread forever?

Many of us have reached saturation overload...there MUST be at least one other person out there equally as reprehensible?
