SALT LAKE CITY -- The former Utah House majority leader who resigned after acknowledging he went hot-tubbing in the nude with a minor was arrested for driving under the influence a week before winning the Republican nomination in 2006, according to court records.

So not only have the Utah newspapers covered up Garn's hot-tubbing nude with 15 yo;
& his confession about it in 2002;
& these events any other time he has run for office since then;
& didn't bother to investigate why the victim was suddenly silent for 8 yrs;
but they also sat on a DUI charge;
& even after the other Garn stuff became public, they still didn't reveal the DUI charge they've sat on for four yrs!
The media outlets that have done this include the Deseret News & KSL.com -- both owned by the Lds church. (Garn is an Lds member)
Looks like you can "trust" the Utah media to cover the backs of its own, no matter what they do!
This makes me so ashamed of Utah.
I think DUIs are disgusting, however I have known people who where pulled over for speeding and given DUIs for one glass of wine. People make mistakes and should pay of course but their lives do not necessarily need to be ruined forever.
Having said that, being in a hot tub with a naked child IS NOT a mistake it is perversion. And for that he should be ruined.
Can this be called “Lyin’ by omission for the Lord”?
“I have known people who where pulled over for speeding and given DUIs for one glass of wine. “
I call BS. It would have to be a HUGE glass of wine to get a .8.
Yes, but not so big to get a .07, even lower in some states.
According to the Salt Lake Tribune today: Garn had slurred speech, glassy eyes and a bump on his head, which he told officers he sustained when he had fallen down. Officers contacted his wife who said he had called her earlier in the night, and she had told him not to drive drunk.
(That doesn't sound to me like one glass of wine)
For Trib article, which also revealed Garn was an Lds bishop at the time of his DUI, see: Garn pleaded guilty in 2006 to alcohol-related charge [Lds bishop DUI]
I know a person who got a DUI when she left a party, decided not to drive and was sitting in her friends drive way. The keys were in the ignition, so according to the police she could have driven. Anyway, she was given a DUI, and it will be on her record till the end of time.
You are correct. It sounds as if he was sloshed.
I call BS too. I could see having to be EVALUATED for DUI because of the smell of the wine on one’s breath.
Garn’s career is over.
But only a fanatic would make this an LDS issue. The attempt to hide the truth is a political action and cuts across all creeds. It’s how powerful humans behave all too often despite their group affiliation.
How about broadcaster Dick Nourse’s DWI and wife beating? Ever see that in the public square?
Except of all religions, only the temple Mormons portend to be "gods" in the next life. "Hiding the truth," as you put it, "suppressing the truth" as Romans 1 puts it, is NOT very becoming of either future gods or "gods-in-embryo."
And broadcaster compares to state legislator of a mormon-run state and spiritual leader of a sect that bans the use of tobacco, coffe and tea and alcohol...how?
Did you get the part that they were speeding as well?
Besides, by all means, if you're going to start catering to the politicos who "hide the truth," I've heard there's a need to fill some PR jobs especially on the Democratic side of the aisle. (Maybe they could use a potential apologist like you!)
As it is, all you have to do is to go the readers' comments section of this article as well as the one in today's SL Trib, you'll see Democrat readers calling the "family values" crowd "hypocrites" -- not only for Garn's actions but for the extensive news media cover-up. They're saying things like (to paraphrase one), "This would have been front-page news in 2006 if it had been a Democratic legislator."
Well, at least that reader has it half right: Had it been a non-Lds Democratic legislator!
Broadcaster influences a lot more people and is a propaganda mouthpiece. That’s how.
Heh heh. Your monomania is very entertaining.
Watch it! There’s another Mormon hiding behind that bush! They have planted bugs in your light fixtures as well!
I’m sorry svcw, when I replied to your post and called BS, I didn’t realize it was you. I know you have integrity and speak the truth so if you say it was true, I believe you.
