Could someone explain why she says to “repeal the 17th amendment” and take their senators back?
Just read through the amendment, don’t understand that statement.
I also think the states should propose a consititutional amendment to prohibit any government body from making medical decisions for individuals.... or something to that effect. I believe almost EVERY American would favor that and it would be ratified.
Go Katharine!
We need more people that think like you on our side.
This is a battle that has to be fought to regain the principles that America was founded on — first and foremost is freedom. Everything else comes after that.
“Could someone explain why she says to repeal the 17th amendment and take their senators back?”
Originally Senators were appointed by the state legislature, not popularly elected.
This ensured that the interests of each state were carried to D.C. Instead we have the situation where the state’s interests are not represented in D.C., taking away any vestige of ‘state’s rights’.
Restoring the original design of appointed senators would go a long way toward reducing the size of the federal gov’t.
Glad you are on our side!
The only good thing to come from this is the strong GOP voices are being heard on the National Stage. We do have leaders and you are one of them!
“We, as a country, are done.”
Don’t be so quick in funeral announcments. We have NEVER elected a congress with the mandate to go to Washington to rip out federal programs by the roots. Every congress since 1964 has gone to DC to increase either social or defense spending. Burning down federal programs has always been a peripheral issue.
In the next two election cycles, we have the opportunity to destroy federal fascism.
Let’s get to work, shall we?
That is the theory anyhow.
I'd love to see this happen. At least the corruption would be closer to home.
Perhaps you can kick some gentleman’s ass.
The need for decorum is vastly outweighed by the need to put down the Rats who have no regard for decorum except as a means to control the riffraff.
I really like your way of thinking and your “FReeper profile page” is great.
I admire your political stance and support your endeavor but being a pragmatist, how are you going to deal with the issue on the home front regarding Van? You know the Dems are going to make that an issue or has that now been put to rest?
Ping to #30.......how’s that?
Once can turn a blind eye to an individual’s background but in politics, if they can’t stand up to the questions posed by their supporters then they will be toast to their opponents........and don’t think for a second that they don’t have internet access.
Bump! The next quiet news day, I’ll ping it. And if there isn’t a quiet news day soon, I’ll add it to a ping anyway!

I might be doing pings here now and then to keep this thread bumped. On to the news ...

60 Minutes Exposes United States Financial Collapse ~VIDEO
http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2010/03/30/60-minutes-exposes-united-states-financial-collapse.aspx
In this 60 Minutes report, youll learn about a handful of Wall Street outsiders who realized the subprime mortgage business was a house of cards and found a way to bet against it. Michael Lewis talks about the current situation on Wall Street, the large bonuses still being paid and his predictions for the future of the industry.
Michael Lewis was also interviewed on Charlie Rose on March 16th. To see that video, please see this link.
The second video details the tactics employed by Lehman Brothers to effectively hide their crumbling financial status.
Id like to note that the 60 Minutes report was sponsored by Pfizer, and features a prominent ad for Lipitor off to the side of the Web page. Isn’t it interesting that one of the largest industries responsible for the collapse of the economy is sponsoring this?
This is the company that has distorted and manipulated the truth so that people will pay hundreds of dollars for worthless and dangerous drugs that in no way, shape or form address their health issue, yet they are hoodwinked into believing that if they don’t take them their life is at stake. [snip]

Conflict or Cooperation — Nailed it! Simple and compelling.
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2483672/posts?page=1
When’s the last time you heard of beer drinkers in conflict with wine drinkers, or three-piece suit lovers in conflict with lovers of blue jeans? It seldom if ever happens because beer and blue jean lovers get what they want. Wine and three-piece suit lovers get what they want and they all can live in peace with one another.
It would be easy to create conflict among these people. Instead of free choice and private decision-making, clothing and beverage decisions could be made in the political arena. In other words, have a democratic majority-rule process to decide what drinks and clothing that would be allowed. Then we would see wine lovers organized against beer lovers, and blue jean lovers organized against three-piece suit lovers ... [snip]

So, mean right-winger Tea Partiers are hurting the feelings of our sainted elected officials in Washington. There are rumors of intimidation, death threats and, horror of horrors, inappropriate language. So thin-skinned are these folks that Sarah Palin’s simple exhortation, “don’t retreat, reload,” was referred to as “violent words and imagery.” Even dead Republicans are the subject of posthumous excoriation, as in these noble words of Barry Goldwater: “Extremism in defense of liberty is no vice.” One wonders what they would make of Thomas Jefferson’s observation that, “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood...
