Just got off phone with Leader Boehner's office. The Motion to Recommit is being worked on and will be presented.
Smoke ‘em while you got ‘em (and while we can).
I was thinking he sounded pretty good for 2012.
I hope so.
Amen to that!
What is a recommit?
Please of please keep the motion to recommit limited to the Stupak amendment and not an overly laden amendment will tort reform, etc. Make the Stupak abortion people vote no on the motion to recommit on just the abortion question (making them flip floppers) and not give them an excuse to vote against the motion for other reasons.
No harm in trying.
It doesn’t matter. The Senate bill will be approved, regardless of the reconciliation process. Stupak just got screwed over because the Senate bill will allow federal funded abortions. And there’s no way Obama will sign the executive order. Why? Because there is absolutely no recourse for Stupak if Obama doesn’t.
A motion to recommit returns a bill to committee, in effect killing it. However, a motion to recommit with instructions is a last opportunity to amend the bill.
The instructions to the committee direct changes to the text of the bill. If adopted, the chairman of the named committee immediately stands and reports the change back to the House. The next step is the House vote on final passage of the bill.
Minority Members receive priority of recognition for offering motions to recommit. --C-Span Congressional Glossary
Thanks! I’m grateful for those willing to teach here on FR.
They have to honor Boehner’s Motion to Recommit.
Excellent news but I hope it’s ready in time to be voted on.
Oh, it will be. Carl Cameron just said the language will seek to undo the effect of the executive order.
DOH!!! You are correct, My head is someplace else :-)
I think this is a good move by the Republicans. It puts all the dimoKKKRATS on the spot. Come election time it will give them no wiggle room when trying to explain their votes. Their Republican opponents can use it against them as this was an opportunity to change the legislation and they did not.
And IN REALITY if the Repubs do it right, and duh Dems vote to defeat the recommit, Stupak and pack will be painted as liars without any wiggleroom.
I’m having a Sam Adams before the health care taxes raise the price of my unhealthy lifestyle.
Sounds like a plan, especially sense we have run out of alternatives.
