Democrats are worried about holding their members together on a GOP motion that could kill the healthcare bill.
Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) said House leaders are specifically concerned about a Republican motion to recommit that would contain only language on abortion that Stupak originally had wanted to include in the Senate bill.

From what I can gather, the GOP will put a motion to recommit. They will attempt to amend the bill to include anti-abortion language. If the “pro-life” Rats vote to NOT recommit, they are essentially saying that they stand for the bill as it stands with publicly funded abortions.
If they vote to recommit, then the GOP can amend the bill which will then not be the exact same bill that the Senate passed. Even if the House passes the amended bill the bill then goes back to the Senate where it will require 60 votes to stop a filibuster. This will effectively kill the bill.
My family at that time was in SE Ohio and fought for the Union. My great-great-great grandfather sent a letter to President Johnson following the war. We have the President’s reply with his letter attached about how veterans were not being given what they had been promised when they joined the Union Army.
I would have to get out the info but I think the 8th Cavalry is the unit my relatives were also in during the Civil War — after the War they moved to Miami County, Ohio.
Originally they came from Virgiania where they settled long before the Revolulionary War where they fought the Brits.
Thanks for the suggested reading. Will pick it up based on your recommendation. Churchill is one of the most fascinating figures in history IMO.
FReegards.
Thanks. That was clear and concise.
We don’t have any Presidential letters, but we do have a record of one of those uncles going AWOL!
LOL!!!
My Mom moved to Norman about 5 years ago and I some of the things I had at my home but when she died last year, we discovered the letter she had kept all those years that had been handed down to my Dad.
That is brilliant, I am about ready to return to the Grand Old Party!!! They are really doing well, I think for the most part the GOP has re-established it’s conservative/American roots.
Why would House Democrats be worried? There are 59 abortion-supporting Democrats in the Senate. That’s more than enough to kill off any attempt at inserting the Hyde Amendment in the reconciliation package. Stupak has nothing to worry about. He can rest assured knowing that federal tax dollars will soon be used to kill unborn babies.
BS. When House Republicans last night tried to insert a similar amendment into the reconciliation bill, the ONLY DEMOCRAT to speak out in oppposition to their attempt was Bart Stupak.
If the pubs had been this proactive several years ago, we wouldn’t have this problem now. If they’d stood up to the press, the press would not have been as successful in poisoning America’s mind against pubs and conservatives and this massive number of rats would not have been elected, even if zero was nevertheless elected.
What a shame. It’s not too little, but it’s too late.
Just wait until they start with amnesty for illegals, and of course then healthcare for them, too. You are right, the South has been here before for a host of reasons that included slavery. By this bill, all of us becomes slaves and serfs to a federal government coopted into a fascist state with corporatists and statists at the helm. They are not prepared for the response of our ilk (a Scottish term). Since these statists have no tribe of concise history, they have no unity save marxism and progressive state control. That is not enough to defeat a deeply motivated opposition. This group is, in fact the reason the British were defeated and our country was born.
This was not the only time the “union” government failed veterans. Look up “Bonus Marchers” to learn how both Herbert Hoover and FDR treated WWI veterans in the midst of Depression- denying their health claims and claims for their bonus payments they were promised on enlistment for WWI. FDR had no problem denying them. Elitists hate our military, except when they are in an embassy somewhere and expect the Marines to protect them. Cowards all.
I know. I posted it a few hours before his speech happened.
Our pastor (RC)said this past Sunday for us to listen to our bishop(s); because they were opposing this bill! He’s kind of a young man, but pretty conservative in many ways; a no-nonsense sort.
He said that there were people claiming to be Catholics, who were supporting this bill. He said not to listen to them if they said that Catholics were all for it! He said just listen to the bishops, and don’t pay attention to all those people in those groups!
