Stupak Agrees to Executive Order Language: 7 More to Vote Yes
Firedoglake.com ^ | 3/21/10 | Jane Hamsher

Posted on 03/21/2010 10:07:07 AM PDT by LdSentinal

Per MSNBC, Bart Stupak has agreed to language in an executive order that would satisfy his block. He had called a press conference at 12:30, but has now canceled it. The seven Democrats left in his block will vote “yes.”

Details of what the order will contain are not known. Yesterday the Washington Post said that “it is likely at the very least to restate Obama’s commitment to upholding the Hyde Amendment.”

Right now, the Hyde Amendment has to be renewed each year in the Appropriations bill. Having a Democratic President state it in the form of an Executive Order would be quite a coup for anti-abortion activists.

But Stupak has been after more than just Hyde. The health care bill contains $10 billion for Bernie Sanders’ community clinics, which would begin immediately rather than waiting until 2014. Planned Parenthood had pledged their support for the bill with the knowledge that much of that money would be going to their clinics, but would not be used for abortion services. However Stupak has pursuing the agenda of American’s United for Life, who want a commitment that no money go toward Planned Parenthood clinics regardless of what it is used for.

It’s possible that the Stupak block were just looking for a graceful way out, an excuse to drop their fight and vote for the bill without looking to the anti-abortion community that they just gave in to political pressure. But until the language of the executive order is released publicly, nobody will know.

Rep. Diana DeGette agreed to support the executive order yesterday on behalf of the pro-choice caucus. DeGette has still not released the 41 names of those who signed her letter saying they “would not vote for a conference report that contains language that restricts women’s right to choose any further than current law,” even though the language in the Senate bill most certainly does that.

Imagine what today would look like if progressives in the House had held their ground like the unions or the anti-abortion Democrats. As Armando notes, “It actually stands as a testament to the ineptitude of progressives. Fighting for a very popular initiative, they still could not muster a bargaining strategy that could work.”

Join us at 2pm today when debate iof the bill will begin in the House. It will proceed for 2 hours and then be stopped for the vote. After the House votes on the Senate bill, there will immediately be a vote on the reconciliation “fix.” We’ll be live blogging.

May the pain and suffering of every single American citizen that results from this monstrosity be visited upon those voting for this bill and their families for generations to come. Every patient who suffers from not seeing a doctor on a timely basis, every living being denied drugs or treatment and sentenced to an early death, every tear of every family member who is left helpless to save a loved one from the horrors of government-run medicine...may it visit every democrat tenfold.

I’m part Italian, so if I have any cursing ability I’m going to try to use it.

Well wags. I had previously stated that I would prefer a pro-life democrat to a pro-choice republican, however Stupak is showing his true colors.

There is no such animal as a pro-life democrat.

Stupak will turn out to be the Judas Iscariot of the Pro-Life Movement and the Savior of the pro-Death movement. The blood of millions of babies will be on his hands.

Socialists prefer the dark, just like cockroaches.

Seriously,it looks like the Frenchman was correct:the Republic will last until the people vote themselves largesse from the treasury.

“We have 3 options to beat back this communist coup.....

1. Ballot box - in 2010 & 2012 to overturn this and the new “programs” coming (Amnesty, Cap&Tax, etc)

2. Legal box - i.e. lawsuits and hope SCOTUS overturns on basis of unconstitionality

3. Ammo box - No explanation needed “

Agreed.

All this “all she wrote” and America’s over crap is just that.

I will fight, I will never stop fighting them.
What they have done is unprecedented and WILL NOT STAND!

8 months until November.

From thehayride.com.....

“Update 3-21, 10:10 AM (from MacAoidh): I’m working on a piece for the front page (I’ll post a link here when it’s done) which discusses reasons why the assumption of inevitability that Obamacare once enacted will continue to grow is false. As said many times elsewhere, this would be the first social legislation of major scale to be enacted without bipartisan support, and it’s also the first time the majority which would enact such legislation would be likely to be turned out of office immediately thereafter. There are other reasons why this one is different, and I’ll get into those, plus expand on the above, in the piece I’m working on for later today.”

Investigative reporters need to be looking closely at what payola or quid pro quo was involved with these 7.

"We were stupid to trust in Stupak."

Please speak for yourself. Anybody with two firing brain cells knew that Stupak was going to vote for the bill in the end.

Selling out on abortion and on a Sunday.

For these frauds, making a deal with the devil on Sunday isn't an issue.

Yup, socialism and personal gain trumps all for them, even the lives of the unborn. God help them.

Do Stupak and friends realize that even if Obama is true to his word, nothing stops a future president from rescinding the executive order?

The Supreme Court has already ruled that a line item veto (even with Congress' approval) is not consitutional. Any EO in which portions of this bill will not be implemented is an unconstitutional act. The Pro-Death crowd knows this and that is why they are not upset about the Obama promise. First of all Obama has no intention of keeping it, and secondly, even if he did try to implement this EO, the courts will strike it down faster than you can say line item veto.

If passed, this massive, partisan piece of socialist dreck will never be directly repealed by our corrupt and craven Congress.

GOP control of House after 2010 elections will be enough to defund and stop the taxing, simply by withholding votes. Finishing the process in 2012 (actually 2013) with GOP control of Senate and Presidency will give a fair crack at also replacing the Rat "reforms" with conservative reforms and letting it run.

Normally a witches’ sabbath comes prior to the Christian day in question. Looks like this one is going into extra innings.

Earlier generations of American patriots faced worse, and persevered.

Sorry to say - at that time American were man-man and they had gutts and LOVE for their country! Now we see a generation of beta males obsessed with American idol and America haters and with NO spine what soever and so friking spoiled that they sure are not ready to fight for anything but the terrorists rights! Sorry to say...
