First term Democrat Nye voting against health care bill (BIG "NO" PICKUP!)
Hampton Roads ^ | 3-20-10 | Bill Bartel

U.S. Rep. Glenn Nye announced Saturday night he is voting against against the Democratic health care bill today, saying it doesn’t do enough to lower the cost of health care.

“Over the past year, I have spoken with countless small business owners, families, medical professionals, and average citizens across Virginia’s 2nd District, and it became very clear that this bill was not the right solution for Virginia’s health care challenges,” Nye said in a written statement. “There were many strong points in this bill that I would have been happy to support individually, but the package as a whole had serious problems.”

Yes it is exciting. FDL also lists some very good reasons as to why Sanchez is MIA. She has a well funded Rep challenger, Van Tran who is a son of the growing Vietnamese community there. Apparently Vietnamese go 2/1 GOP.

Congressman Paul Broun (GA) met with a group of supporters around midnight tonight at the Cannon office building. Word is that the healthcare reform debate has distilled-down into a battle over abortion (you may already be aware) – he gave me a message and concrete list of Congressmen who (as of late-tonight) are on the fence and potential converts to vote NO tomorrow. This list is much bigger than the media is reporting – and it’s directly from Congressman Broun. [snip]

Why did he wait so long to announce? Don't get me wrong, I am glad he is a "no", but given his statement, he should have reached this decision weeks ago.

when the "particulars" in the bill concerning TriCARE were released.....Nye knew he was in BIG trouble with a Yes vote.......you want to find a CD in this country with a very large number of military retirees...just look at Virginia 2nd.....and I still think he is in trouble in November, even after a Pelosi Pass to vote no....

You are correct. I was thinking he was in the same column as Childers when I used CTRL+F to locate. Sorry about that.

I believe that you are misunderstanding or misusing the meaning of "irrelevant"

I know the the meaning. The term is on the mark. It is exactly what I meant to post.

This proposed deathcare monstrosity is in no way "unimportant", "insignificant", "negligible", or "immaterial".

It is irrelevant because it is unconstitutional. The only relevant matter is what Congress is allowed to consider per the specifically listed powers in Article 1 Section 8. Regulating health care is not listed in Article Section 8. It immediately renders any prior action of Congress, with respect to health care, unconstitutional. Any adherence to the federal government on this matter and any subsequent action by the federal government immediately becomes immaterial regardless of the content.

He’s voting no because it “doesn’t do enough.” In other words he wants a ride on Air Force One.
