So what is Stupak’s game?

Another source quoted Stupak as saying that he had offered Pelosi 7 or 8 different ideas to address the abortion funding objections and she didn't want to hear them. I think it's safe to say that he and his coalition would probably vote for the Senate bill if it did not allow for federal funding of abortions.

I think he's using his leverage to get enough people in the House and the Senate to consider whether health care reform is important enough to them that it would be worth dropping the abortion funding.

I think Stupak and his ilk want Pelosi and Reid to try to cobble together enough votes with the abortion funding dropped. If it's that or nothing, Pelosi and Reid might be able to get it done. But it would take more time and time is something they do not have.

Thanks. I think she will not try to change or strip out abortion and hopefully Stupak’s group hangs tough.

I hope Stupak can run the clock out. I cannot see her trying to strip out abortion.

I think if they try to use Slaughter solution then there will be hell to pay.

"In the end he'll cave & he thinks it will make him look good for 'trying'."

"He is another political whore with a little dirt under his fingernails. What do you suppose they have on him?"

Since he's a RAT - I'm sure there is something.

He REALLY wants to pass Obama's monstrosity. This alone makes him someone with no honor.

If he was a truly dedicated pro-lifer - he would be a Republican.

He wants the folks in his district to re-elect him in a bad RAT year!

I just watch Stupak on the Greta replay.

His presser is at 11:00AM tomorrow.

I have the distinct feeling he’s made a deal with the devil.

All that needs to be said.

Stupak will in the end vote for the health care bill I think because he is a worthess POS with no conviction beyond party loyalty. The ball is in his court.

I have a feeling that he has put the 7 - 8 deals on the table and if the Democrats want to do one of them he will announce it at the press conference, if not he will still have it and explain why he is a “no.”

He’s said he’s been wanting to vote for healthcare reform for 18 years.

He’s dying to vote YES and looking for any excuse.

He knows damn well there will be no senate fix.

I’ve watched this worm turn before.

I hope you're right. I still have my doubts - but I apologize in advance if I misjudged him.

There’s going to be hell to pay, no matter what happens on this issue and on all other issues. Both, the GOP and U.S. conservatism, in general, could do well on November 2, but leftist legislation that really can’t be undone by non-leftists will only make all non-leftist political victories become only short-term political victories. All-and I mean all-bad leftist legislation must be successfully and permanently replaced by conservative solutions on all of the issues, or the leftists will successfully return to political power yet again down the road!

I don’t get it either. It was my understanding that in order to pass, both bills MUST have the exact same language.

I just posted in another thread. I think the entire Stupak drama has been orchestrated from the beginning. He knows abortion is in, but he is going to score political points on it, WHILE voting yes on the bill.

Think about it:

(1) He *appears* to be a prolifer, who voted yes, only on condition of putting abortion to a separate vote that he knew he would lose (he will).
(2) The Democrats can now turn Pro-Lifers against Republicans in the senate, in the hopes of either:
(a) Forcing Republicans to deal to get the abortion language removed.
(b) Allowing Republicans to take heat for not opposing the abortion language.

I think we’ve been had, but hey, I was wrong on Scott Brown, I could be wrong again, but I seriously doubt it (as usual :)).

Stupak is a LOYAL democrat who wants health care to pass, everything he says at 11 AM is a CYA charade. Methinks he votes yes based on his announced smoke & mirrors amendment that “removes” abortion language, even if it passes the House the Senate refuses to take it up. Stupak tells the folks back home he did his best. ‘nuff said!

Pelosi and the rest will cave to what Stupak wants in order to get it to pass. zero doesn’t care what is in it and what isn’t in it, as long as the core control elements are there, so he will be telling everybody what they need to hear in order to get the votes. Certain senators and House members will be dispatched to “handle” the abortion lobby so they will acquiesce to throwing out the fed-funded abortion.......for now.

Why don’t you thank the dumbass voters in NY-23 instead of others? The VOTERS chose the guy. THEY are responsible.

Good grief.

The RECONCILIATION bill, meaning the Nuclear Option. That’s what every single conversation in the last week has had at its core - “fixing” the senate bill with a simultaneous reconciliation bill in order to get House members to pass the senate bill (a bill the House members don’t like).
