Bill to Opt Out of Health Care Passes (Georgia)
WSB Radio Atlanta ^ | March 18, 2010 | Sandra Parrish

(WSB Radio State Capitol Bureau) -- A day after Democrats in the State Senate narrowly defeat a proposed constitutional amendment to allow Georgians to opt out of the federal health care plan, Senators vote to reconsider the measure and pass a similar bill that would do the same thing.

Sen. Judson Hill is the sponsor of both measures. Senate Bill 317 passed on a vote of 31-16.

"While I would have preferred to let Georgians vote to have their rights protected in the State Constitution, this legislation will protect Georgians in a similar way," he says.

Hudson says the bill, if passed, could be challenged in court whereas it would be more difficult to overturn a constitutional amendment.

"The last 24 hours I've received hundreds of calls and emails from people all over Georgia asking us to do one thing and that's to stand up to defend their rights... SB 317 does just that," he says.

The bill now goes the House.

Get serious and call a constitutional convention to fix this forever.

I'm sick and tired of hearing Conservatives be scared of a Constitutional Convention. They fear it would replaced the Constitution, but that's already being done. They fear it would destroy our rights, but no group can take away our Natural Rights. They fear it would increase the federal government's powers, but the federal government does that on its own. They fail to remember that, unlike federal legislation and Supreme Court decisions, any proposal from a Con-Con would have to be ratified by 38 States in order to go into effect.

We have nothing to lose by holding a new Con-Con. Stop being afraid!

Interesting. And furthermore, this might be the direction we’re FORCED to go. Or perhaps we’re already there.

"A Convention for Proposing Amendments...as Part of This Constitution"

This is a good primer on how the process would work.

Thanks for the post bamahead. I wasn't aware Gawga was working on blowback to the feral gummint's socialized medicine.

Socialized medicine nullification passes Georgia senate!

b) another step toward a constitutional convention on the manner

A constitutional convention is not the way to go. We already have a copnstitution that is being ignored. What a politicin may slip into a constitution during one of these conventins may be worse.

Just enforce the constitution we have now.

Just remember, wars are created by politicians not the people.

By the time this passes I don’t think there are going to be any states left that will allow it, and if there are any states that do they’re really going to be looked down at by the rest of the country.
