New York State Tax Refunds Put On Hold (CORRUPT DEMS AT WORK)

Gov. Paterson Freezes $500 Million, Says Financial Situation The Case, Won't Start Sending Again Until April 1

Embattled Governor: $1.5 Billion In School Aid Next To Be Halted

NEW YORK (CBS) ― For hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers, the check won't be in the mail -- at least not on time. New York State has stopped paying tax refunds and won't start again until next month.

The tax refund delay is part of a bigger cash crunch.

Message to New Yorkers: don't start spending your tax refund money because it's going to be delayed.

Half a billion dollars' worth of refund checks were put on hold last Friday, and state beancounters won't start sending you your money until at least April 1.

"I apologize that we had to do this. I hope it serves notice on the public of how serious our financial situation is," Gov. David Paterson said.

Several hundred thousand New York taxpayers will be affected with most getting an average refund of $1,000. People who filed in late February and early March might have to wait as long as six weeks till the checks are in the mail.

The governor said the move was unavoidable.

(snip)

"The damage at this time would be far worse because if we do not pay our debts on time, it thrusts the state into a downgraded credit rating," Paterson said.

Tell that to people who were counting on the refund money to get them through these tough economic times.

(snip)

"I don't think it's fair. People need the money," said Anthony Gatti of Greenpoint. "Seems like they're pulling out all the stops to dig into the people's pockets to make up for the mismanagement of state funding."

An example is the ticket givers on the Thru-way.

A friend and I drove across the GW Bridge and onto the Thru-Way en route to Boston from the DC area earlier this year.

The tolls were obscene, and the roads were horrible. Potholes aplenty, very faint lane markings, only random streetlights working.

It almost reminded me of the int'l. airport in San Francisco, where in some terminals only random electrical outlets are working.

Reasons why I left Upstate NY 20 years ago:

1) TAXES and then MORE TAXES

2) Albany corruption

3) Union thugs running the business into the ground

4) Social programs that DO NOTHING to help ANYONE but state employees administering them.

5) Roads from hell

6) Welfare culture that promotes sloth rather than a work ethic

7) ZERO private sector jobs being created

8) a lot of former friends who absolutely believe government is THE solution and big business is THE problem

9) political families who believe they have a divine right to rule NY State

10) cities that look like East Berlin in 1982

The Ohio Turnpike Cashiers (which is what they are) get paid an average of $70,000.

Bingo. NYS is a huge social program state. It's the only way the politicians can stay in power. No freebies - no votes.

Most libs I know proudly state they don’t mind paying more taxes if they get more services.

They should be throwing parties with the news that New York is keeping their money.

Attention all you folks in NY:

Adjust your state witholding to 15 dependents whether you have them or not, and quit voting for Democrats.

Tell your neighbors.
