Over the last two budget cycles, every state except North Dakota has had to close a budget gap. But a handful of states stand out for the depth of their fiscal problems. For 2010, seven states had budget gaps totaling more than 25% of general fund spending, as measured by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. Of these, six have a clear story about how they ended up in such a mess.

I know Senator Brady personally. He is a conservative who will be a great governor.

I really hope he can overcome the Chicago Machine and pull this thing out.

Illinois is owned by corrupt labor unions and crooked pols.
They continue to spend like Prince Obama and think the people still buy their spiel.

The problem with Illinois (my homestate) is that, since 2003, we’ve had only democrat governors and Democrats controlling both houses of the state legislature. Those liberals increased many tax rates and fees, causing businesses to leave the state. Those liberals also increased their salaries. The salary of an Illinois state legislator is about $78,000, per year.

Illinois, like California, caters to the illegal aliens. That’s expensive.

BTW, it’s not well known that the Obama administration is deporting aliens at a greater rate than did the Bush administration. Is he betraying someone?

I see this this happening in many cities and states dominated by Democrats. Detroit, for example, was run into the ground to the point of being bull dozed. These liberals are like locusts, feeding on cities, destroying them, and then moving on. Unforunately they have moved on to Washington. Are all of us next?

There are no Republicans, not even a RINO, holding state wide offices. I live in the Peoples Republic of Illinois and there is no more thoroughly corrupt, completely rigged, over taxed and economical strangled state in the union. At least California can occasionally put at least a RINO in office. And they can tap into their Hollywood billionaires to pay some, although not nearly all, of the bills.

You did not say whether these aliens are illegal or not. But if they are illegal, I'd call it a good thing. At least Obummer is doing something right.

The illegals are a problem, and do cause a strain on the schools in the inner suburbs of Chicago. The REAL problem with Illinois, however, is corruption and double-dipping into the pension system on the part of public officials and government employees, who already have bloated salaries relative to their workload.

What’s wrong with Illinois?

The libs run most of the government here. In my county alone, libs have controlled government for the last 40 years. Our local GOP is a bunch of spineless hacks who are more concerned with vanity, influence and coffee klatches than putting together a team of dedicated, energetic people with the ideas and willpower to go out and win elections.

The last County GOP gathering I went to was embarrassing to say the least. Forrest Gump could have enunciated better than the candidates who addressed us. Most of the people there were in their 60’s - very few young people.

Until the GOP here gets serious about taking on entrenched dims, nothing will ever change.
