I am in the same boat. My Congressman is an in-the-tank, whatever-you-say-Nancy Democrat. An email to him is not worth the paper it’s not written on. The GOP rarely even runs anybody against him (although this year a Tea Party candidate is stepping up to the plate)
Of course, it all depends on the "alternative" use of the time it would take to write. What would you do with that time?
If there is no other good use of the time mentioned, then I - IMHO - would suggest the following:
1. Write the letter - don't spare any words. While this particular rep will most likely never see your letter (even if you mark it "private" and "confidential" (in fact, if you mark it so, you can be absolutely positive he'll never see it....security concerns, you know), it will make you feel better knowing that you've written.
2. If the local office of this rep is in close enough proximity to you...visit. Tell the flunky running the front desk that as your rep, you expect him to vote a resounding "NO" on the legislation and would take major offense if he does not follow your wishes.
3. Send an e-mail to this rep's office in DC
4. Call both the local office and the DC office of this rep expressing your demand that the rep vote a resounding "NO" on this piece of legislation
5. Come next Nov...do what you think is right with respect to this rep. My guess is - and it's only a guess mind you - that you will be voting a resounding "NO" as to his re-election.
My best to you....let us know how it turns out.
My congressman is Dennis Moore, a supposed “blue dog” - retiring next year, big 0bama/Pelosi supporter, would not have any meetings with his constituents last year.
What do you do? If I wrote to him, he wouldn’t change his mind, and I would have a hard time keeping my “sentiments” toward him from coming out of my keyboard.
It won’t change their minds but it will show them the intensity of the fight. I think you write them.
Yes, you should - also phone his office. Also, write others. If enough of us do even a little, it can make a difference. Several Reps. are on the fence or can be swayed.
Please tell your representative that if he votes for Obamacare, you will do all you can to help defeat him, including contributions to his opponents and volunteering time working for his opponent.
Write your member if you like but it is a done deal.
God help America....
Yeah, it was a waste of time, but I just wanted there to be a record that not everyone here in his MA district is gung ho for the government to take over health care in this country.
Go ahead and write/call/email. Feels good regardless of the result.
If you want real results, start in your precinct. Find out who your precinct leader is....probably called a precinct chair. Volunteer to be a block captain or whatever. The get the list of registered republicans and independents from the precinct chair. Go door to door on your. Start building local support in your neighborhood and help others to realize they are not alone in their frustration. Unity and change start at the very bottom which is the precinct.
Note that at a local Republican Precinct Convention meeting there were only two of us. We voted, nominated and proposed resolutions. How sad that out of 2000 registered republicans in our precinct, two showed up, and only 146 voted. It was the first time either of us had ever been to one and we were the only ones there. Talk about the blind leading the blind. Very eye opening in how easy it would be to twist things if we were so inclined.
Get involved at your local level.
Ending with two quotes: If you learn from defeat, you haven’t really lost. and You are the only person on earth who can use your ability. both from Zig Ziglar the motivational speaker.
Call his office and tell him that if he votes yes, you will do everything in your power to replace him with Barb Davis-White in the next go round. Just the mention of Barb’s name will get his undies in a bunch. :)
I’m in a similiar situation.
My two Senators and Congressman would never vote
for this bill no matter what.
In fact one of my Congressman said he would have to be dead before he voted for it.
So I really have no one to write to either lol.. but for a different reason.
The best thing to do is VOTE THE BUMS OUT IN NOVEMBER.
Re your post 21, I, too, have two senators (Warner and Webb, of Virginia) who I never bother contacting. Long ago I burned those bridges since I knew then that they are worthless toadies of whoever is the majority leader in the Senate. And they have proven me right.
On the other hand, my rep. is House Whip Eric Cantor, and him I keep in contact with, just to praise for his stance on issues.
I’ve been to two rallies in Washington and three tea parties in my area. That’s my way of getting attention for our causes.
I just emailed mine, Dennis Kucinich.
