Sony boss asks theater owners for healthier snacks

LAS VEGAS — The head of Sony Pictures suggested Monday that movie theaters offer healthier snacks to help fight obesity and give audiences a broader range of food choices.

That aside, this guy's opinion should be totally irrelevant to any self-respecting, Hollywood-hating Freeper because as conservatives, we should not be using our hard earned money to support the leftist commie propagandists who write, produce, direct, act in, and distribute the trash that comes out of Hollywood.

You need to find a new theater to go to. Our local multiplex is not only clean, it has ushers that keep tabs on things and will eject unruly patrons. Now if they just had better movies I woul go more often

Hey Sony, why don’t you and the other movie makers make ‘shorter’ movies. All the ‘health food’ in the world ain’t going to make a lick of difference when we’re spending 3+ hours on our collective arses at a theatre.

Exactly. Which is why my "big purse" goes to the movies. We smuggle in ziplock bags of 94% fat-free popcorn, apples, carrots and celery, sugar-snap peas, etc.

The local theaters have all allowed me to carry in a full-sized paper grocery bag of popcorn I've popped myself with extra virgin olive oil in my West Bend Stir-Crazy, with only a light dash of salt.

Two cardiac stents are enough. I don't care how tasty movie house popcorn is, it's not worth another stent.

Fruit would also be welcome. I'll have to try bringing in some of that as well. Worst case, they make me throw away an apple? I can live with that.

I don't think most folks who are going to the movies much care if their food choices are healthy, or not. I guess it would be OK to have a couple of better choices, though. When I was growing up, there was always an ice chest full of hugh plain old dill pickles on sticks! That was in MS, though. I can't even FIND pickles like that up here in MA; all they seem to have is Kosher pickles, not plain.

Hubby and I are going to the local beer and burger theater tomorrow night to see The Blind Side. This place gets the movies after they've been out a couple of months, and you can order up a beer, soda, burger, pizza, fries, or onion rings to eat while you're enjoying the movie. They have little tables between the chairs, for your convenience. It's about the ONLY place we ever go out for a movie these days, with the exception of the IMAX theater for certain films.

I may go to the movies once a year. Getting greasy buttery popcorn and a box of candy is an essential part of the experience, thank you very much.

Since the advent of DVDs and large TVs it just doesn't make any sense to go to movies (a movie comes out on DVD about six weeks after it's in the theaters and you can buy the DVD for the same price as two tickets). Plus, there just aren't that many good movies coming out.

But about once a year there is a movie my wife and I really want to see and we want to see it in a theater. It just wouldn't be the same without a bucket of greasy popcorn.

PNC Park in Pittsburgh has an All You Can Eat section, where the price of admission gets you unlimited hot dogs, hamburgers, popcorn, ice cream and soda-pop.

Some Health Nazi raised a stink about that last year, so they added green salads to the menu.

I think I can count on my fingers and toes the number of salads eaten in that section over an 81-date home schedule.

I have an idea, why doesn’t Sony offer a rebate on a movie ticket if the purchaser buys a healthy snack at the concession stand....

Funny, SONY a producer of films wants the theatres that show films to change their business model so SONY can pretend to be concerned about adolescent obesity. The funny thing is, theatres make no money on the tickets sold but exclusively on the concession. If we are to believe SONY’s interest, should we not expect them to reduce their take on tickets to offset the theatres “good works” as defined by SONY? Fat chance.

Ahh, the good ol' days of candy cigarettes! We "smoked"...then ate...the brands our parents used. Never made me a real smoker, just cool to sit in the Saturday matinee and "puff" away! [Also had to have a bag of popcorn with black licorice bites mixed in!]

I do wish they would offer microwave popcorn though.
