On Friday, the Obama administration filed an amicus brief in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, supporting the use of racial preferences by the University of Texas in its undergraduate admissions. The brief is a full-throated endorsement of such discrimination, and it goes out of its way to say that the administration will support it at the K-12 level, too, as well as throughout university admissions: In view of the importance of diversity in educational institutions, the United States, through the Departments of Education and Justice, supports the efforts of school systems and post-secondary educational institutions that wish to develop admissions policies that endeavor to achieve the educational benefits of diversity in accordance with [the Supreme Courts 2003 decision upholding the use of preferences by the University of Michigan law school].
The brief is also noteworthy because the University here wants to make sure that there is plenty of racial diversity on a classroom-by-classroom basis, and because the University was already bragging about its high degree of diversity when it decided to ramp it up through more overt preferences following the Supreme Courts 2003 decision. There is also the usual disingenuousness of how race is only being considered a factor but, of course, that factor will make the difference for many students in whether they get in or not, else why consider it at all?
This case, in all likelihood, is headed to the Supreme Court, and the Obama administration has now staked out its position.
Coincides with the nationalization of student loans added to obama care bill. Will result in reverse discrimination.
You Betcha.
A whole steaming pile of racist BS.
Since they are disconnecting achievement from college admission status, one day a college degree will cease to be the “ticket” to a good job. We will go back to the original formula that HARD WORK makes you successful. Somewhere along the way that got perverted into this notion that a college degree is what makes you successful. The degree has come to be viewed as the CAUSE of success, when the truth is, or rather used to be, that the same achievement, hard work orientation it took to get a college degree, served the person well and led to success in life. All of this diversity stuff is going to make college meaningless, much as those trophies that are handed out to EVERYONE.
considering the drivel taught at ‘leading universities’, I already consider an advanced degree about as worthless as used TP.
Welcome to Jack Squat’s post-racial America......
Obama’s philosophy....
“Of the Negroes, By the Negroes, and for the Negroes.”
Whitey need not apply.
Well, OK, but when are we going to reinstitute anti-miscegenation laws? You can’t have diversity if everybody looks like Tiger Woods.
Well, since the presidency is now an affirmative action hire, why not everything else?
I was discussing this very thing with my wife. My wife is a Filipina we met during the Gulf War. We have both worked on international contracts. We were considered odd, even in our family. Now we have two family members working overseas. We find more young people willing to work overseas. Especially if they are recent grads in the current economy. If international companies offer HC packages why not go to Dubai or China.
AA in the referenced post stands for affirmative action.
Response: Of course! A conquering people typically give themselves preferences over the vanquished. In short, as the Gaul said to the Roman; "Woe to the conquered."
All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others. :)
Proving once again he is a diehard racist!
Obama is only filing a brief in support of the policy of The University of Texas!
Republicans have controlled Texas, both executive branch and legislature for 15 years straight now, yet they have left in place diversity czars that push raw racial discrimination against whites.
And everyone here is mis-focused on Obama. The focus should be on Bush (the past failure) and Perry (the current failure) who are liberals.
If the GOP is unwilling, even when given the overwhelming support of white voters to take the basic steps (replacing chancellors, removing minority appointees, updating regulations, instructing bureacrats to cease and desist on AA plans, etc) needed to address our issues then we are fools for continuing to support them.
We are losing the country by inaction and the polite, diverse GOP is part-and-parcel of the problem.
What's wrong with the GOP?
Yes, we know how much kids who are raised by a bank vice-president and sent to the most elite private schools need a leg up in life.
No. The book is “Issues from my Daddy”
