'Jerusalem construction will go on'

Despite R. Shlomo crisis, PM says Israel will continue to build in all parts of the capital.

While the United States continued to criticize Israel over an east Jerusalem housing project approved during US Vice President Joe Biden's visit to Israel least week, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Monday said construction in the capital would continue as usual.

"Construction in Jerusalem will continue in any part of the city as it has during the last 42 years," Netanyahu stressed at the Likud faction meeting.

"In the past 40 years, there was no government that limited construction in any Jerusalem area or neighborhood," Netanyahu said. "Establishing Jewish neighborhoods did not hurt Jerusalem's Arab residents and was not at their expense."

The prime minister said Israel was committed to the 10-month building moratorium in the West Bank.

In the US, however, Israel's Ambassador to Washington Michael Oren said the crisis over the approval of 1,600 new housing units in the Ramat Shlomo neighborhood was "the worst since 1975."

Earlier Monday, at the Labor faction meeting, Defense Minister Ehud Barak also referred to the crisis with Washington, saying that "the government must work so the crisis will be forgotten and the talks get back on track," and explaining how he was working to decrease the tensions.

"I just had a meeting at the Knesset with Fred Hoff, aide to [US special Mideast envoy George] Mitchell, an American diplomat who has been working with us for many years, as well as with US Ambassador to Israel James Cunningham."

Barak told the faction that, "we discussed the necessary steps and possible ways to abate the recent tensions and resume the negotiations with the Palestinians."

The negotiations, Barak said, are "supremely needed and are an issue that Labor believes in. It's one of the reasons we are in the government."

Gil Hoffman contributed to this report.

You were saying ...

I would absolutely consider revenge for 9/11 adequate reason.

Yeah, since Islam attacked America, then America should attack Islam and totally destroy it in the world, and outlaw it in the United States...

According to a recent Gallup poll, 63% of Americans say their sympathies lie with the Israelis--a near-record high--vs. just 15% with the Palestinians. that is pretty dramatic, and demonstrates how off base Obama is with this anti-Israeli policies.

"The Devil is in the details" ... doncha know...

You should try that poll again and see how many would support Israel consolidating all their territory into one state of Israel and pushing out all the Muslim terrorists.... as compared to how many believe that there should be a "two-state solution" in which Israel lives within smaller and limited borders and allows Muslims to live within a state that they have, derived from former Israeli terrority.

Then you would see the vast split there... LOL...

As I said, the Devil is in the details... and the "American people" don't support Israel consolidating all the territories into one state of Israel and driving out all the Muslims back to the respective ancestral and historical countries and keeping Israel for Israelis...,

And this is as it should be -- and -- as the Bible indicates will be done, with Israel controlling not only the territory that they now have, but expanding their territory into encompassing all of Jordan, all of Lebanon, a large part of Egypt and over into Iraq and parts of Saudi Arabia.

That's what Israel should do... expand out to the boundaries that God has granted them and remove the Muslim terrorists. Then they will have peace in the land.

Oh... and have you “run the poll” where it shows how many “Christians” think that God has granted Israel title deed to all the historical territory that Israel has ever had?

You show that poll and you’ll see a big split — with a large segment of Christians saying that God has nothing to do with Israel any more and that Israel has forfeited all the promises of God and that they are now in the possession of the “church” instead.

You do that poll and you’ll find more against Israel than for Israel...

Catholic belief that the Jews would never return to their homeland until the second coming of Jesus was completely discredited by the return of the Jews to their homeland. To try to salvage something theologically, Catholic leaders decided to try to keep Jerusalem of the control of Israel - this despite the fact that only under Israel have all religions enjoyed protection and safety. When Jordan controlled part of Jerusalem, they desecrated and tore up holy sites and used the Western Wall area as a latrine. History and the Bible have proven that no country or international body, except the Jewish state of Israel can be counted on to keep Jerusalem safe and free and ready for messianic times.

Not the U.S. The political class as been telling Israel what to do. I guess we elect those bozos but they never do what we sent them up there for and they always fix it so that we have to choose the lesser of two bozos.

You were saying ...

Catholic belief that the Jews would never return to their homeland until the second coming of Jesus was completely discredited by the return of the Jews to their homeland.

That's true about the Catholic Church and their treatment of Israel and the Jews. It is highly colored by the theological position.

But, for the sake of fairness here, I will make mention of the fact that large groups of Protestant Christianity agrees with the Catholics (and for the record, I don't agree with the Catholics and the large segments of Protestant Christianity who say this about Israel and the Jews).

To try to salvage something theologically, Catholic leaders decided to try to keep Jerusalem of the control of Israel - this despite the fact that only under Israel have all religions enjoyed protection and safety.

The Catholic Church refused to "recognize" Israel or negotiate for these things for decades, in the hopes that Israel would be destroyed (in the intervening time) and thus, they would not have to "be on the record" as negotiating with the "State of Israel" which went totally against their theological positions as to whom would be in control of the land of Israel.

But, after several decades when the Catholic Church saw that Israel was not going to be destroyed, they figured that they should start negotiating with the State of Israel over some of these areas (which they started doing relatively recently (in terms of when Israel was first "re-formed" again in 1948).

When I was saying that there are large segments of Protestant Christianity that agrees with the Catholic position on Israel's possession of the land (or rather what they would like to see as "non-possession" of the land) and in regards to Israel being a prime focus of God's promises (which they take as not valid any longer) -- there is one big difference between these groups of Protestant Christianity and the Catholic Church.

The Catholic Church maintains relations with other sovereign nations as it considers itself (the Vatican) to be a sovereign nation, too. The other Protestant bodies don't do that. And so, the Catholic Church is politically heavily involved in these matters, as a "sovereign nation" among other sovereign nations (exchanging ambassadors, etc.).

And also, the Catholic Church has given a lot of support to the Palestinians and against Israel's control over all the land, as God has promised Israel. Likewise other Protestant bodies have also given support to the Palestinians, against Israel's control over all the land and over all the territories.

The only Christian groups who give full support to Israel, recognizing that God will grant Israel full control over all the land and that God will rule the world -- through Israel, itself -- over all the nations (in that Israel will be the "head nation" over all nations of the world), and that the world capital for rule of the nations will be Jerusalem, Israel -- are the Christians who believe the future prophecies for Israel in the Bible, believe in the coming Rapture of the Christians, believe that the 7-year Tribulation is coming, and believe that Israel will have a Millennial Kingdom, with the Messiah of Israel, ruling over all the nations for that 1,000 years.

Those are the Christians (that segment of Christians) who fully support Israel, according to what the Bible says.

It's ironic that the Catholic Church thinks that it will be in control of the "Kingdom on earth" -- and when it happens, it will be the nation of Israel, who will be in control of the Kingdom on earth" and Israel will rule over all the other nations of the world, by the Messiah of Israel ruling from Jerusalem.

That's "quite a twist" against the Catholic Theology -- and that's why they don't like it... :-)

When Jordan controlled part of Jerusalem, they desecrated and tore up holy sites and used the Western Wall area as a latrine. History and the Bible have proven that no country or international body, except the Jewish state of Israel can be counted on to keep Jerusalem safe and free and ready for messianic times.

The "Kingdom" will be in control of Israel and the Jews, over the rest of the world, and the man who is the Messiah of Israel, will be seated on the Throne of David, in Jerusalem and He will administer Israel's control and reign over the rest of the nations in the world.

When that man, the Messiah of Israel, comes back to this earth, He will wage war against all of Israel's enemies and totally destroy them all, including all the Muslims and their evil religion. The world will finally be rid of all Muslims and their evil religion (and any other false religions that exist in the world) at that time of His return, to set up the world-wide ruling Kingdom, in Israel.

And..., that's not too far away, definitely within the lifetime for many to see directly (here) as they will still be living at the time.

Well, the Bible says you are wrong... you see... :-)

It says that all the world (including the United States, as it's part of that world, doncha know...) -- will be against Israel and that only God will stand and fight for Israel -- and no other nation will.

Sorry, but the Bible says you're wrong...

Not the U.S. The political class as been telling Israel what to do.

There are significan numbers of Christians who help the Palestinians, against Israel and it's possessing of the land of Israel. They work against Israel -- because they don't see that Israel has any more right to the "promises of God" that were given to it in the Old Testament. These Christians say that the promises of God are now in the possession of the church (and not Israel) and that Israel has no more significance to God -- any more than any other nation on this earth does. They say that Israel is simply "another nation" and no more. They have forfeited all the promises of God that He gave to them.

That's the position of the Catholic Church and with large groups of Protestant Christianity.

So, what you're saying is not just with the "political class" -- but also with a majority of those who say they are Christians.

I can produce lists for you of those Christians who are against Israel in this way. In fact, I'm in discussions almost every day (or maybe every other day... LOL...) with these Christians, right here on Free Republic, who say that very thing about Israel and that anyone who thinks that Israel still has the promises of God -- is (basically) a stupid and foolish Christian and is an idiot.... LOL ...

I would say that you're "out of touch" with the reality of the matter on this subject.

The United States (we the people) supports you.

That's plainly not true... and right here on Free Republic, I run into Christians all the time that say that Israel has no more "title deed" to the land of Israel, granted from God, Himself -- than any other nation might have.

They say that Israel is simply another nation, and that the U.S.'s involvement in Israel has absolutely nothing to do with God's promises to Israel in being restored to the land. These Christians (right here on Free Republic) totally deny the right of the land to Israel by way of God's promises of restoring the nation of Israel to their land in the end days...

You're out of touch with reality on this matter, I would say...

Joyce Kaufman. The 7 Reasons to Support Israel.

Well, I should mention this then... The Bible's one reason to support Israel.

God will establish Israel as ruling nation in the world over all other nations of the world, in the Kingdom, that the Messiah of Israel will establish, in Jerusalem.

No, I’m in touch and none of the Christians I know think that way. Maybe some Catholics, but not Bible Believing Christians. Maybe some (very few) anti-dispensation Protestants, but not Bible believing Christians. They’re a minority. If you live in this country you should know it.

You didn't read anywhere on here that I don't support Israel... what you read on here is that others don't support Israel. And those others include Americans and also a large segment of Christianity (including the Catholic Church and certain Protestant mainline denominations, regarding the promises of Israel being forfeited and now in possession of the church, and not of Israel any longer).

You misunderstand me talking about the "reality" of the situation -- with my support/non-support.

I hope you understand now.

Everything that I've said is true and there are large segments of Christianity who think that Israel is no longer of any more prophetic significance to God and that the church is in possession of all the promises. And also there are large segments of Americans who would disagree with Israel possessing all the land that God has granted them and they also think that the Palestinians should have their own state (which is against what the Bible says about the land of Israel being in possession of the Jews/Israel).

What I said is true and my support for Israel is true also...

You'll also note that I said that I was "pre-pre and a dispensationalist" ... and that is where you're going to find the biggest and most solid support of Israel among any who call themselves Christians. You'll also note that I've said that there is a distinction between "Israel" and the "church" -- which is another thing that many Christians get wrong (watch, they'll be on there soon, discounting that one... LOL ...). And also, you'll note that I've said that the Messiah of Israel will be seated at the Throne of David, which is an earthly throne over an earthly Kingdom. The Messiah of Israel is not yet seated on the Throne of David, but will be when Israel is ruling over all the other nations of the world... :-) ...
