Not the U.S. The political class as been telling Israel what to do.
There are significan numbers of Christians who help the Palestinians, against Israel and it's possessing of the land of Israel. They work against Israel -- because they don't see that Israel has any more right to the "promises of God" that were given to it in the Old Testament. These Christians say that the promises of God are now in the possession of the church (and not Israel) and that Israel has no more significance to God -- any more than any other nation on this earth does. They say that Israel is simply "another nation" and no more. They have forfeited all the promises of God that He gave to them.
That's the position of the Catholic Church and with large groups of Protestant Christianity.
So, what you're saying is not just with the "political class" -- but also with a majority of those who say they are Christians.
I can produce lists for you of those Christians who are against Israel in this way. In fact, I'm in discussions almost every day (or maybe every other day... LOL...) with these Christians, right here on Free Republic, who say that very thing about Israel and that anyone who thinks that Israel still has the promises of God -- is (basically) a stupid and foolish Christian and is an idiot.... LOL ...
I would say that you're "out of touch" with the reality of the matter on this subject.
No, I’m in touch and none of the Christians I know think that way. Maybe some Catholics, but not Bible Believing Christians. Maybe some (very few) anti-dispensation Protestants, but not Bible believing Christians. They’re a minority. If you live in this country you should know it.
Wait a second, you live in OK? How in the world can you hold that view then? I’ve never met an Okie who doesn’t support Israel.
