U.S. Consular Aide and Husband Killed in Mexico
NYT ^ | 3/14/10 | MARC LACEY and GINGER THOMPSON

LA UNIÓN, Mexico — Gunmen believed to be linked to drug traffickers shot a pregnant American consulate worker and her husband to death in the violence-racked border town of Ciudad Juárez over the weekend, leaving their baby wailing in the back seat of their car, the authorities said Sunday. The gunmen also killed the husband of another consular employee and wounded his two young children.

The shootings took place minutes apart and appeared to be the first deadly attacks on American officials and their families by Mexico’s powerful drug organizations, provoking an angry reaction from the White House. They came during a particularly bloody weekend when nearly 50 people were killed nationwide in drug-gang violence, including attacks in Acapulco as American college students began arriving for spring break.

Wish Teddy Roosevelt were in charge. I believe the problem would be solved pretty quickly. Oh, for a leader....

And - what is your point? He doesn’t give a crap about this country except to destroy it. He is the terrorist in our Whitehouse.

I guess this is why the travel alert came out of the State Dept. earlier in the day.

This is an act of war by the druggies. We should respond accordingly. Running away just doesn’t cut it.

Before these kind of killings occur to us, you can rest assured that LOTS of bribery is going on. We can have NO IDEA what consequences those had for us.

THIS WILL NOT END WELL.

US consulate workers killed in Mexico drug wars
[snip]Good article, btw.

According to the newspaper Diario de Juarez, gunmen chased the couple’s white van shortly after 2 p.m. on Saturday, shooting at the vehicle until it swerved out of control, crashing into oncoming traffic near the bridge.

Ms Enriquez, who was four months pregnant with the couple’s second child, was shot in the head, while her husband was shot in his neck and arm. When police officers arrived at the victims’ bullet-riddled Toyota van, they discovered the couple’s baby daughter crying disconsolately in the back seat, Diario de Juarez reported. At first the officers thought the seven-month-old girl had been wounded, but she was unharmed.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton extended her sympathy to the families of the victims and said Washington would continue to work with the Mexican government to bring drug traffickers to justice.

“These appalling assaults on members of our own State Department family are, sadly, part of a growing tragedy besetting many communities in Mexico,” said Mrs Clinton. Washington was committed to: “work closely with the government of President Calderon to cripple the influence of trafficking organizations at work in Mexico,” she said. “

Indeed.

Ex-federal official facing immigration charges

[snip]“In the past two years, there have been 400 public corruption cases involving federal, state and local law enforcement agents originating from the Southwest border region, Kevin Perkins, FBI assistant director for criminal investigations, told the Senate Homeland Security subcommittee on preparedness.

James Tomsheck, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection assistant commissioner, told the panel the drug cartels operating in Mexico are making a concerted effort to infiltrate CBP, and the agency is responding with more screening of job applicants with polygraph tests and background investigations. Corruption cases were opened last year on 576 CBP officers and Border Patrol agents.”

This should be sufficient provacation to close the border and cancel all direct flights to Mexican destinations. Nothing moves through or above the border, including mail service.

See how long the cartels can last with no illegals going out, no tourists coming in, and no money or drugs moving through the border checkpoints. I know the border is a seive, but now sounds like a good time for National Guard manuevers...
