Hmm ~ I suppose we could pass a law requiring people to quit emitting DNA.

They do pass it out for free all over the place.

Everyone whose ever gone into the military or federal employment has made a contribution to the fingerprint files.

Until the personal privacy people demand that those fingerprint files be destroyed they haven't got a hair in the debate!

DNA is much more than fingerprints.
It is your entire genetic makeup.
It can or soon will be used to identify folks with genetic predisposition to certain diseases among other things it has the potential to identify folks who should not be allowed to have kids among other things.
A national DNA data base is the ultimate invasion of privacy..deal with it.

Chuck, regarding using DNA to track/trace disease, most of the nastiest DNA situations are "KNOWN" from other public records regarding "cause of death" of relatives.

At the same time there are a vast number of DNA related problems where the number of different genes involved in creating those problems is so great that no one gene can be pinned down as a cause.

The costs could be quite high to track such things down.

"I am so ambivalent — I think the analogy to fingerprints is accurate. "

Hey, just think how much money the obama can get by selling the database to the insurance companies....

Those people volunteered to give their fingerprints. They had a choice. People who are arrested didn’t have a choice.

If the state can allow a database of people who have been arrested, there is no legal reason why the state can’t order that every citizen provide a DNA sample for the database.

They do this in England and make arrests for the sole reason of collecting DNA.

DNA is different ~ very soon we will be able to pop it in the hopper and produce a picture of your face.

“What a HUGE mistake this is.”

Too many people watch CSI and believe the BS on that program.

BTW, tens of millions of draftees DIDN'T VOLUNTEER to give fingerprints.

I hope you know that.

So you’re of the crowd that if you don’t have anything to hide you shouldn’t be worried about the govt?

Don't answer that question.

The government should always be DISTRUSTED, and there should be recurring rebellions in diverse places where tyrants are dragged from their palaces and strangled.

Even Medieval Venice once retired a Doge early. The successors were much more agreeable.

This is too funny. Liberals screamed about privacy rights when President Bush tapped in on cellphone conversations in Pakistan and Yemen. But when Obama wants warrantless access to our DNA, liberals are silent. Go figure.

Genetic information is so much more potentially devastating than just an ordinary fingerprint.

Can you say "Gattaca"?

National Health Care. Done deal.

Submit your DNA Or be denied health care.

DNA is just like fingerprints

It might be a good idea to do some studying before entering this debate.

How about birth certificate checks?

LOL. They probably have them, but the Kenyan can't be arrested when he has the SS surrounding him.
