Georgia lawmakers are poised to take up a controversial bill that would outlaw abortions prompted by the baby's race or gender, an issue that has inspired a billboard campaign claiming a racial conspiracy is behind the termination of pregnancies.

That question will be at heart of a debate among Georgia lawmakers, who are poised to take up a controversial bill that would outlaw abortions prompted by the baby's race or gender.
The issue that has inspired a billboard campaign claiming a racial conspiracy is behind the termination of pregnancies. The billboards have drawn national attention for claiming black babies are an "endangered species."
As for the bill, it barely made it out of committee this week, in a 7-6 vote and it still needs to clear the Rules Committee before heading to the full House, but proponents are emboldened by the recent committee vote.
"I'm excited," said the author of the bill, Republican state Rep. Barry Loudermilk. "I think this is one of the most difficult hurdles to face."
But the bill is far from the finish line, and opponents are beginning to line up.
"We're going to go all out to stop the legislation," said Loretta Ross, national coordinator of SisterSong, an abortion-rights group. The bill would have a "chilling effect" on "communities of color that are already suffering from a lack of health providers," she said, and would "drive up malpractice costs."

December 5, 2003: "Abortion: Black Genocide!" By Jesse Lee Peterson. "After reading up on its history, I discovered that the idea of legal abortion was first popularized by a white women, Margaret Sanger, who was the founder of the National Birth Control League, which is now known as Planned Parenthood. Sanger was a lifelong champion of birth control and Eugenics (the movement devoted to "improving" the human species by control of hereditary factors in reproduction).
For a number of years she edited a magazine called the Birth Control Review. Here she gave a platform for numerous articles on these issues, often written by racists, Nazi sympathizers, and/or Eugenicists. (Note: Margaret Sanger was also a vocal admirer of Adolph Hitler, at least until 1939. I really wish more people understood that Planned Parenthood's roots are deeply and firmly planted in the same eugenics movement that gave the world Auschwitz.) Margaret Sanger called for the sterilization of "genetically inferior races". In 1939, she organized her "Negro Project" and wrote "the poorer areas, particularly in the South... are producing alarmingly more than their share of future generations."
Sanger wrote "The most successful educational approach to the Negro is through a religious appeal. We do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population and the Minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members".
I was shocked to learn the number of black women who have had an abortion since the United States Supreme Court legalized it in 1973. Since that time, the number of pre-born lives extinguished is approximately 32 million which includes over ten million black babies. That is about one third or more of the black population in the United States! Over the past ten years, I have counseled and picketed at abortion clinics across the country. I was particularly struck one Saturday morning at a clinic in Virginia.
We arrived there at 8 AM to counsel and demonstrate. The clinic opened at 9 AM. Within a one hour period, I saw at least thirty to forty young black women (some with men and some without) entering this clinic to have abortions performed as if it were NOTHING. It was like getting up and going to a restaurant for Saturday morning breakfast. They had no shame attached to their actions. As a matter of fact, these young women and their boyfriends were angry at us for reminding them that they had another choice.
I will never, ever forget the story of a young black girl I met at an abortion clinic in Los Angeles one Saturday morning. I was protesting near the clinic when I saw the young lady approach the front door. I talked to her, and tried to encourage her to put her baby up for adoption. She said it was too late to make that decision. The young lady then told me her story. She said she had gone into the clinic that Thursday. The doctor had injected something into her womb. For three days the baby KICKED AND GASPED FOR LIFE. On the third day, the baby died. She told me that when the baby expired, it was devastating to her.
She also told me she would never ever be able to overcome the experience. I asked the girl why she chose to go through the process. She said she was encouraged to do this by her mother and boyfriend. That employees in the clinic told her she wouldn't feel anything. They said that she was carrying a fetus and NOT A BABY and that she could not afford to take care of a baby at her age. I asked how old she was. She replied that she was thirteen!
And how do they propose to determine that the reason for an abortion is race or gender based? Are they going to use some sort of mind reading machine? I believe I saw an article about one recently.
Of course then one would have to question government requiring a mind reading session prior to any abortion...talk about invasion of privacy.
Abortion is evil, but so is putting the power in the hands of government to try to control us based upon their best guesses of our thoughts.
Abortions based on gender happen all the time, and I find it even more offensive than abortion in general.
Abortions based on race? Is a black/Hispanic woman killing her baby because she realized the baby will be black/Hispanic too, or is a woman killing her baby because she just realized that the baby will be (half) the same race as the man she was willing to have sex with? Either way, I don’t buy it. These don’t sound plausible to me.
Thank God...
“Either way, I dont buy it.”
Another stupid waste of time. Murder is murder. This is like prosecuting a killer for a hate crime. Murder is against the law no matter who the victim is. The laws are not meant to be played with for cripes sake.
Okay. So we are going to outlaw abortion because of race or gender but we are not going to hold the mother responsible. Do what? How about outlawing abortion? You are KILLING a child no matter if you are doing it because they are female or because you just don’t want a kid. Who is supposedly forcing these black women to have abortions? Whitey?
This bill is a boondoggle. Makes somebody feel good without accomplishing anything.
That is a little strong, don't you think? Anything that chips away at the wall is good in my book.
We have lost our minds with regard race in this country.
They are suggesting that blacks are truly stupid and need guidance like little children. IN addition they are further saying that white babies are just not that important.
So it will be illegal to abort black or hispanic babies, but white babies can be killed at will.
Does this mean unborn babies are no longer legally equal due to race? Have we come to affirmative action in not murdering babies?
My mind is boggled!
The very question I was about to ask.
It doesn’t have any teeth and they admit it. The state senators and representatives just want to be able to say they voted for it. If you can’t prove a provider performed the abortion because the child was black or a female or whatever how do you enforce the law? Wait for them to get on TV and say, “Hey I am doing these because we have too many whatevers or I hate whatevers.”?
I would be happy if it chipped away at the wall but it is like the hate crime bull. Is it anymore or less of a crime if someone beats the heck out of you regardless of your color or gender? A rose by any other name is still a rose. (Ok maybe a bad analogy...a skunk by any other name is still a skunk.) If an abortion is legal in the court’s eyes how do you prove the intent was to kill due to color or gender?
No surprise here. This is a working hypothesis of liberals.
Camel’s nose, people. Camel’s nose.
“This bill is a boondoggle. Makes somebody feel good without accomplishing anything.”
I agree somewhat. The GOOD that is represented here, and I think is probably the aim of the proponents, is to point out that this entire issue was racially motivated to begin with.
We (the public) have been told this many times, but you would be surprised how few people are aware of it.
However, racial discrimination in any form is nothing but WRONG.
“IN addition they are further saying that white babies are just not that important.”
I’m glad someone noticed. The liberals are always promoting support for children in third world countries while promoting abortion in this country. Genocide may be the plan and it isn’t for anyone but the white folk in this country. Someday some people will wake up and realize that abortion is a political football and they are loosing.
They should put forth a bill affirming in law the father of the baby’s natural right to veto the abortion of his child.
