It’s a shame half the posters (it seems) got stuck on the jeans and basebal cap comment.

It seems that many read no further than that before slamming this article.

Too bad. It really is a good commentary.

I read the whole article. But, the first statement stands out as very odd. It doesn’t fit with the rest of it. That’s probably why we’re all focusing on it. It was held out as an example of grown men behaving immaturely. It made the writer sound out-of-touch with reality.

I got hung up on the admonition to “grow up” and then the fact that the first thing being cited was wearing blue jeans and a cap as if that has anything to do with anything let alone maturity. Let’s just alienate everyone and see how that works now ‘eh?

Maybe it's just me, but it seems to be good practice not to alienate such a large portion of your intended audience before you even get started.

It seems that many read no further than that before slamming this article.

Speaking for myself, I read it. It does make some good points, no doubt. However, I've also grown somewhat tired of articles, books, commentaries, etc that lionize & sugarcoat previous generations.

As if everything was hunky dory, Leave it to Beaver land. It wasn't. Those previous generations all have plenty of their own skeletons they have conveniently swept under the rug.

Well...
The article goes on lamenting how irresponsible adults have become - then begs the gov’t to “let us be adults”. Rather a non sequitur at the end.

You can keep your tsk tsks to yourself. I read the article and, like the first sentence, found it to be disjointed and out of touch. For example: “But pop culture doesn’t drive our lives so much as it reflects our lives. “ Really? Put together with the first paragraph, and that statement clearly shows the writer is not aware of what true Americans are like. Pop culture doesn’t reflect the life a good hard working American - it reflects the lives of gimme mentality, broken and angry white henpecked men, and outrageous, loud, ill-spoken black “foke”.

“It’s time for our government to trust us. “ Trust? He spends the whole article outlining the governments role in ruining society, then boils it all down to “cuz they don’t trust us.” How simplistic minded is that?
