On the other hand, while Palin and Huckabee are prominent, their intentions are unclear, Gingrich remains damaged goods, and other candidates are conjectural. Notably, Palin, who is the most dynamic potential GOP candidate, could opt for wealth and influence as a media figure, a better choice for her and her family in many ways than the burdens and brickbats of a Presidential campaign.
In addition, the recession, high unemployment, and out of control federal spending make Romney's business success a potent credential that his rivals do not have. Above all, after the slackness of the Bush years and Obama's shambolic incompetence, the public wants the country back on track. This will make voters in 2012 inclined to prize proven business and managerial ability.
Romney, like Nixon in 1968, is becoming the GOP establishment candidate. If he runs a clever campaign that echoes populist conservative themes and issues, rivals for the GOP nomination will find it hard to gain traction.
I think you meant that for someone else. The point in my previous post being: the Republican establishment put forward nominees in 2008 with the same toadies coming onto forums like FR saying “nobody’s perfect......you can’t have a candidate you agree with all of the time....better to vote for the lesser of two evils....”. Who do we get as the Republican nominee? John (RINO) McCain. Who became president? Barack Ceaucescu Obama.
Doesn’t make any sense. Heath care is front and center so let’s nominate the jerk with zero credibility on the issue. Mr. Romney Care.
And lets hire Bill Clinton or Tiger Woods to teach sex ed to teenage girls.
Just wait until McCain endorses Romney when it comes time... It will be a told you so moment on FreeRepublic.
Watch Mitt Rino pick Scott Brown for VP; The match made in Moderate Purgatory.
Romneyite Allahpundit Nonsensical Push Poll PING!
Was this in just one stake or all of them in the state?
What makes you think the Democrats would actually RUN Obama again?
After 4 years, the country will KNOW a LOT more about ROMNEY!!
If you think he lost the primary LAST time - just WAIT!
No.
NO..
NO!!!!
I am SHOCKED at such an Idea!
Shocked; I tell you!
Romney couldn’t carry Sarah’s shoes................
HE LOST TO MCCAIN! What has Mitt done since 2008 to make him rise to the top of the list of GOP candidates of 2012? Which by the way we don't even know yet who will be on that list. Its all only speculation. In the time-line of things we are months and months away from the point where my favorite, Fred Thompson threw his hat in the 2008 ring. In the Spring of 2012 we could be talking about names not even on the radar screen yet.
We ALL are spending way too much poking fingers at each other about 2012, when Nov 2010 is fast approaching. We got a fight right here and now on our hands, so I say “All hands on Deck” and lets Rock Washington in a big way, by overturning both houses. Then after lets get to work on bringing together a better selection of candidates to choose from for 2012 than we had in past years.
Is that picture who I think it is??
I was 90 % certain it was Sarah, now I am 100% sure. Man she is a beauty from head to toe, inside and out, then and now. I saved it for my collection :)
Fred Thompson was my first choice in 2008, and you get no argument from me as to the need to focus on 2010 — which I am, by the way.
You’re looking at it from the wrong angle: The American people want some kind of health reform. They want pre-existing conditions reform, they want the portability, they want lower costs, but NOT WITH THE OTHER BURDENS PUT ON THEM BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. Romney’s position all along is that the states should handle healthcare reform, not the Federal Government. That’s a winning argument for a lot of people beyond the conservative loop...magritte
I tried to like Romney, I really did, but he could not win me over during the debates, If you closed your eyes and just listen to his answers he did not sound like the Reagan Conservative I am looking for. But what really did it, was at the Iowa Debate, the famous “Show of Hands” question.
Q: “Show of hands - How many of you believe Climate Change is a serious threat, and caused by human activity?”
Before Fred saved their butts with his “we are not playing hands” response, Romney, Rudy, McCain, and I think Huckabee all had their hands up. And watch Romney after Freds brave interruption, clap his hands and say he agrees with Fred. A little too late for that, he was caught with his hand up. Thats not leadership, thats me too, me too.
Then after, you here the most idiotic rambling and soft peddling from just about all of them until it was time to move on to the next question. As a Republican I was embarrassed. Not one of them looked like a Leader on the issue, except for Fred but they wouldnt let him answer. Not one of them had the brass ones to tell the moderator, look, there is not one bit of solid evidence that Man is causing any sort of climate change, and were not going to throw billions and billions of dollars at something we dont even know we can fight. Now an answer like that on National TV would have had me and Republicans all over saying YES!, and probably would of sparked our interest in the candidate. But it didnt happen.
In case you forgot, here is that question on youtube.

This is the way McCain was polling in 2006-2007 - FReepers just refused to believe it. Romney is the clear leader for the 2012 nomination at this point. Which is probably fine with the Obama camp, since they think his Mormonism makes him destroyable. We’ll see...
