Senate Plan Calls for National ID Card to Curb Illegal Immigration
Newsmax ^ | March 11, 2010 | Dave Eberhart

A national ID card using biometric data such as fingerprints is at the center of an immigration reform bill being hammered out in the U.S. Senate – a measure that once again probably will pit advocates of homeland security and tough immigration enforcement against civil libertarians, employers and immigrant rights groups.

The new effort by Sens. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and Lindsey Graham, R- S.C., will revive the “Real ID” debate that has festered for years with little effect on illegal immigration. Under their plan, a universally required card would be encoded with all sorts of information regarding the holder, as well as contain a unique biometric signature created from either fingerprints or the vein patterns on the tops of the hands.

Bottom line: Employers will not be able to hire applicants who do not present a valid ID.

Schumer and Graham are slated to meet soon with President Barack Obama to brief him on their work. An administration official said the White House has no position on the biometric card, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal.

Code Red” - House Target List on Health Care

The National Republican Congressional Committee has published a target list on health care. In addition to continuing to contact the five Tennessee Democrat Congressmen, you can go http://www.votervoice.net/link/clickthrough/ext/94697.aspx to contact some of these targets. Much of the talk following Obama’s announcement has focused on how to defeat this second bill through reconciliation, but that is misleading because the first step to defeating Obamacare is not by concentrating on defeating the “fixer” bill but by defeating the Senate bill in the House when it goes to the floor for an up-or-down vote on Thursday, March 18th.

Just enforce the present laws like sheriff Joe Arpaio’s doing. Then hire seniors and (people who actually like to work) unemployeds to cart these freeloaders off to the border in busses with positive ID’s on all of them to ensure that none comes back across the border. Have a Mariachi Band greet them with ‘South of the Border, down Mexico way’.

I believe after that election the GOP will have the White House and comfortable majorities in both the House and the Senate.

That's scary. The GOP had all three branches and was the very proponent of amnesty and open borders. GOP control is no guarantee that this cheap labor legislation won't pass - ask Bush, McCain, Graham, Flake, Cornyn, the leaders of it last time around.

Only Republicans who can pass a Tea Party litmus test are the guarantee that amnesty and open borders won't happen.

The purpose of the ID card is to link centralized information databases about Americans with an ability to track private activities in which the government claims an interest. It will not stop illegal immigration, nor prevent people from hiring illegal aliens. It will however allow the Federal government to justify a costly new bureaucracy dedicated to tracking employment via the new system, imposing fines and even control over American employers.

But here's what they are really after: the program would provide political cover for amnesty by allowing its supporters to claim that the card provides a safe and secure "path to citizenship" for illegals by giving the Federal government power to track and tax them. And suddenly, we'd absorb 10-15 million new "citizens" many of whom don't speak English, most of whom would instantly become Federal beneficiaries, and virtually all of whom would vote Democrat.

While patriots and constitution lovers clamor to close the borders, its ironic that the statists and constitution-snuffers will actually agree. Yes, they will also clamor to close the borders, although on their own schedule. If/when they manage to snuff liberty and private property and freedom, that is when they will agree to close the borders... to keep the rest of us IN.

Sometimes you just have to choose: do you want 12 million illegals here using healthcare free, driving without insurance, avoiding their fair-share of taxes, and other social problems OR would you rather carry a proof of citizenship card.

To most of us it is a no brainer

(By the way, do you object to carrying a drivers license?)

IOW, “the Real ID Act didn’t go far enough with invading U.S. citizens privacy........Let’s federally mandate putting the burden on the citizenry to prove who they are and keep an eye on them ............instead of tracking down illegal lawbreakers and sending them back where they belong.”

You can be damn sure there is a hidden agenda here----b/c liberals have been viscerally against ID cards from the getgo----they "say" ID's reek of totalitarian regimes (shudder).

The deal will be that the US will give amnesty to tens of millions of illegals and in exchange there will be a national ID card needed for employment. That this national ID card will will keep out future illegal aliens because they won’t be able to work here

It’s a bait and switch. We will end up will millions of new Democrat voters and the enforcement will still be awful. Virtually no one will be deported, same as what you have today

Even now we have a SS number database that employers could be ordered to use when hiring new workers to sort out those with fake SS numbers. How come that is not used but we want to jump up a couple notches to a more serious national ID? The Feds don’t even utilize the national ID we have now known as the SS number, for immigration enforcement

Curb illegal immigration? I think it needs to be eliminated altogether, not curbed. I am so sick of this s***!

Neither side of the isle is interested in addressing the illegal immigrant issue because it serves their own interests too well.

Until the American people DEMAND an end to this foolishness, nothing will happen, and even then, nothing will happen.

It's time for a reboot.........
