Sen. John Kerry is slamming the Food and Drug Administration with letters, demanding that it justify and reconsider its "outdated" ban on blood donation by men who have sex with men.
According to the FDA policy, homosexual men are banned from donating blood if they have had sexual intercourse with a male since 1977.
Kerry, D-Mass., and 17 other Democratic lawmakers asked FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg to reverse the policy in a March 4 letter.
"Not a single piece of scientific evidence supports the ban." Kerry wrote. "A law that was once considered medically justified is today simply outdated and needs to end. ..."

I say we save that blood for liberals who agree with you Senator Kerry, then I’m all for it.

. "Not a single piece of scientific evidence supports the ban." Kerry wrote. He's right. Not a single piece of "evidence". But rather, several hundred thousand death certificates!

Kerry graduated from Yale with a degree in political science. Thus that makes him an expert in Hematology too.

Except my Dead friend and ex-boss who died in the great Hemopheliac AIDS Death of the late 80’s/early 90’s.
As many as 200,000 Hemopheliacs were killed by Aids-tainted blood.

You know, it’s funny. I needed a blood transfusion last year, got two pints. And while I know the odds are it’s totally safe, when they brought that blood in it scared the heck out of me.
I kept thinking, who did this come from, and what kind of lifestyle did they lead?

I just hope I never need blood. Might as well bleed to death as to die from AIDS. My mother died at age 58 from hepatitus she got from infected blood. This was back in 1978 before they tested blood. She had heart surgery and recieved the blood durring her surgery. The hepatitus on top of her surgery killed her. One of my daughters friends who was a hemopheliac died at age 15 from AIDS he contacted from infected blood. Its a sad state of affairs when political correctness becomes more important than the lives of good decent people.

""Not a single piece of scientific evidence supports the ban."
Somewhere around 25% of black gay men have HIV. How you like them apples, Senator Kerry? And in urban areas, close to 20% of gay men have HIV. This man is in denial.
The Chicago study found that more than 17 percent of gay men in Chicago have HIV; 39 percent did not get tested in the last year because they were worried about the result.
Almost 600 gay men from across the city were tested for HIV/AIDS and interviewed about their lifestyles, including questions about drug use and number of partners. Ninety-one of the subjects tested positive for the virus.
Thirty percent of gay black men in Chicago tested positive, the study showed, while Hispanics and white men had rates of 12 percent and 11.3 percent, respectively.
A quarter of blacks aged 18-24 tested positive. More than 37 percent of blacks aged 25-34 - the highest of any age group - tested positive. The numbers are similar to national figures.

I wonder if a person can save their own blood. I remember my husband donating his blood for his sister when she had surgery.

I would be worried that the blood came from a lib. I think you need to monitor yourself for liberal leanings for the next couple of years. :)
