Looking to challenge a time-honored privilege widely used by both parties when they are in the minority, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid on Wednesday vowed to remove the filibuster as a weapon to kill legislation by debating it to death.
In a summit with liberal online groups, the Nevada Democrat claimed the procedural maneuver has been abused,
"Next Congress, we're going to take a look at it. We are likely to have to make some changes in it, because the Republicans have abused that just like the spitball was abused in baseball and the four-corner offense was abused in basketball," Reid told The Huffington Post.
Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., appearing at the same summit, said his Rules Committee will take action in the coming weeks.
The rules committee is going to start holding hearings on how to undo the filibuster rule, he said.

Next Congress will convene with a Republican replacement for Reid in the Senate, so he can forget about changing the rules outside Stoplight, Nevada or whatever pissant town he lives in.
This is so un-American. “Mr. Smith” is spinning in his grave. If the commie ‘RATS pull this off, the GOP needs to insure that this “rule” is made permanent and cannot ever, never be changed once the Republicans are the majority again.
Next year when THEY are in the minority they will quickly change their tune.
Yeah, by all means don’t work with the other side to draft a bill that will actually pass...
I assume they are counting on Byrd to die soon and therefore not be the curmudgeon he frequently is.
THE OIC comes to mind. Required by the RATS as an outgrowth of Watergate, only to be declared abusive when used against Bill Clinton.
Absolutely not. The pubs need to restore it and bump it up to 67 votes, or by another calculation, to the number of republicans in majority plus 10 or 20.
I believe it use to be 67 votes.
Sure Harry. Catch you "next congress"!
Then let’s say 75 and compromise at 70.
We could increase the percentage in fact. Make it 3/4!
The ‘Rats need to be very careful what they ask for. It will bite them hard when they lose power.
IIRC it takes 67 votes to change any Senate rule so hahaha you lose Reid in more ways than one come November! BTW, when exactly have the Republicans used a fillibuster since 2006? Since we just got a 40th vote I’d say that someone is lying!
This is tantamount to a declaration of war. The Democrat party is an enemy within this country and are showing it so brazenly now. They are drunk with power and are abusing this country and its people in the process now where they think the laws can be made to outlaw any voice and challenge against them. This is how dictatorships and dangerous regimes come to be, people. I am not using hyperbole when I say that 0bama and the Demons are evil. They will do anything and are proving it again and again. There needs to be a serious challenge to these people because this is out of control and it’s up to the people in gov’t positions, YES REPUBLICAN SCUMBAGS, to actually challenge them and use the appropriate language for them. This is not your typical American political process, but an attempt to destroy this country by these communist/fascist/tyrannical, extremely dangerous leftists.
This is evil. Just pure evil as if there was ever any doubts about the people who make up the Democrat party! And just where in the hell are the Republicans in Congress with these moves? Why are they still acting as if this is just part of the political process?! They are enabling this extreme abuse of power and you can not be friendly with these ghouls. I am still waiting for a strong voice of the opposition as this continues. They all have blood on their hands and their souls need to answer for this in the next life for every damn person who ever sacrificed for this country while they are so timidly standing by as we are being destoyed from within by these enemies.
And, just what do you expect them to do, since they are in the minority right now?
