It all started here this morning:
The Obama administration will accept no more public input for a federal strategy that could prohibit U.S. citizens from fishing the nations oceans, coastal areas, Great Lakes, and even inland waters.
I had to read that 3 times before it sank in and then I did a little research. Guess what old Barack (Ive never had a fishing rod in my hand a day in my life) Obama has been up to since last year? Plotting a Federal takeover of all our bodies of water (freshwater saltwater doesnt matter), in an effort to set up MORE bureaucracies and circumvent the rights of the States to determine fair use and access rules amongst themselves based on the local interests of everyone involved.
If he was out to ban recreational fishing this piece would be easy enough to write; scream a little, stomp my feet, vow hell have to pry my fishing rod from my cold dead hands, etc and be done with it. Problem is, this is much darker and more corrupt than that.
The White House plan would establish 9 regional planning bodies (bureaucracies) whose job would be to bring Federal, State, and Tribal Partners together to look for ways to decrease user conflicts; improve planning and regulatory efficiencies and decrease their associated costs and delays; and preserve critical ecosystem function and services.
It should come as no surprise that the Administration is no longer accepting comments or input from the public (though you should click through to see some of the doozies that WERE accepted), and it should come as no surprise that a member of Obamas Administration (Jane Lubchenco, NOAA administrator) has some interesting ties with a couple private charities and goofy greenie groups whose interests will be very well served by a Federal takeover of our various bodies of water:
While she possesses impressive academic and professional credentials as a marine biologist, she also has close ties to those who produced the November document. For example, she was a trustee of the Environmental Defense Fund, and served on the Pew Oceans Commission.
More below the who needs jobs and successful multi-billion dollar industries anymore, anyway? fold
More info here, and a call for some Asian Carp-killing love here. Dont miss the policy pdf here if you really want your head to explode. Read between the lines folks this will lock down oil exploration faster and farther than the moratorium Congress JUST let expire ever did, and allows the greenies to set policy for fishing AND boating (at the expense of millions of jobs and billions of boating and fishing industry dollars).
ALWAYS worry when you read this from Obamas people: The planning process would be fully transparent and participatory. and dont forget to laugh out loud when you follow up with this timeless classic: Places Science-Based Information at the Heart of Decision-Making. Scientific data, information and knowledge, as well as relevant traditional knowledge, will be the underpinning of the regionally developed plans.
Hows that settled climate change science mumbo jumbo working out again?
On the plus side, this will make for an awesome ad campaign to use against the Dems for the November elections.

The Excise tax on luxury items in the late 80s killed the boat, jewelry and fur industries and didn't collect much in the way of taxes. In Toms River there was a large boat manufacturing plant where shiprights earned $20-30/hr. That building is now a Walmart with those folks earning minimum wage.
What is it that we don't get about Obismal?
Each DAY brings another outrage, who says that there'll be November elections?
I think this is another one of his over-reaches that is going to blow up in his face (and also another illustration of the poor judgment he always displays when making appointments). I don’t think he has any idea how many people fish. I also think they are running the risk of politicizing a huge number of people who are either BO supporters or who, so far, have had no interest in politics but are going to be enraged by this. It might behoove the GOP or the fishing lobby to run some ads in say, the South, talking about what they are trying to do. The groups who oppose this should try to place an oped in every small newspaper in every area where people fish. And some billboards.
And he will decide who gets medical care, who gets an apartment, who gets a TV, who gets a car, who gets food, who gets an education...
The 2nd Amendment.
It’s about jobs, Mr. President. You sure have a knack for sidestepping the issues that Americans care about and putting the focus on issues that will tend to get them more and more riled up.
He needs to be impeached and removed from office.
Major rollback starting in 2010.
So, here I sit with the river less than 1000 ft below me.
Money has gotten a bit tight and as “The Administration” keeps making matters worse....money will be in shorter supply. I thought of buying my fishing license and using my day-offs to catch a few for the freezer.
Now, you are telling me one of the last bastions of putting food on the table is going to be taken away? Along with that other crazy legislation about home food gardening?
beginning to sound like the old soviet union isn’t it....only the american people are armed to the teeth...
I remember those days. I lived right down the road from Viking Yacht in New Gretna,NJ. They took a beating but came back.
Sic Semper Tyrannis
The Washington Post has provided no coverage of this whatsoever, despite the fact that people fish off of every bridge and riverbank in this area, not to mention the bay.
