Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is warning the tea party activists to not run third party candidates that would divide Republican voters and waste opportunities for the GOP.
Romney said in an interview with Newsmax posted on the conservative outlets website Monday night that he was pleased the conservative grassroots movement is silent no longer.
The likely 2012 GOP presidential candidate cautioned though that while he supports the idea of conservative challenges in GOP primaries, third party tea party-backed candidates in the general election could be disastrous.
Divide and fail is the result, Romney said of third party challenges. That would hand over the country to [President] Barack Obama and [House Speaker] Nancy Pelosi and [Senate Majority Leader] Harry Reid, and that would be very sad indeed.
While Romney urged caution for the general election, the former governor indicated that has no problem letting the party sort out its divisions in primaries.
Asked about libertarian Rep. Ron Pauls (R-Texas) place in the GOP, Romney said we welcome his participation in our party, adding were a big-tent party.
Romney also wouldnt take sides in the Senate primary fight in Florida between Gov. Charlie Crist and former state House Speaker Marco Rubio.
I like both of those individuals. I havent decided whether to endorse one or the other or neither, but I hope whoever wins the primary is able carry on very effectively in the general election, Romney said. We need more Republican senators in Washington very badly right now.
Romney praises Obama
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney praised President Obama
at a GOP fundraising dinner Wednesday ..
"I also think it's important for us to nod to the president when he's right," Romney said....
Romney, who spoke at a dinner for the National Republican Senatorial Committee,
said he's pleased with the president's plans to "finish the job" in Iraq and Afghanistan
-- lines that drew applause from the partisan audience. He also applauded the president
for standing up to the auto industry.
"I hope he continues to be tough ....The former businessman even offered faint praise for
Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner, saying that after a series of initial missteps,
"I think he's finally getting close to the right answer."
Because there is only one goal to you saboteurs of Romney
I'm sabotoging Romney now? do I get a gold star for that?
“One of Romney’s supporters here, Peter Horry, had a novel idea.”
Actually that, like most you post is either untrue or “taken out of context” , that is a common technique of those you oppose. Why do you lower yourself to their behavior?
I have agreed with statements ,made by Gov. Romney, that were being discredited/attacked simply because he made them, I have also posted his statements to make a point about what he said. I will, as long as I am allowed to, continue to do so.
Your techniques can be found in “Rules for Radicals” as seen below. In your case, like many in this forum, the cause is limited discrediting Gov. Romney. Nothing else seems important.
“Our cause had to be all shining justice, allied with the angels; theirs had to be all evil, tied to the Devil; in no war has the enemy or the cause ever been gray. (Alinsky 1972: 3) “
As for your challenge, seen below, I will be glad to do so. You were unable to comprehend my post or purposely ignored it in a feeble attempt to ridicule it. My point was that Sen. McCain’s lack of leadership in response to hurricane and the financial crisis, both of which resulted in the convention being suspended, did (in my opinion) have a profound effect on the election. I donated to Sen. McCain’s campaign before the election and planned to make at least one more donation after the election, I did not do so. I believe this may have been the response of many others. Here is your quote.
“He claimed that McCain and Romney lost Election2008 because of “the Hurricane”.
Perhaps he might elaborate here for other FReepers.”
As to your poll results for the McCain/Palin ticket (up +- 8 to 10 pts. days prior to the election) please elaborate here for other FReepers. You could even provide a link, you seem fond of them. Here is what I have found.

THIS WILL BE MY LAST POST TO YOU. I WISH YOU THE BEST OF LUCK, IF YOUR INTENTIONS ARE TO SUPPORT/PRESERVE THE FOUNDATIONS OF THIS REPUBLIC.
I have no idea why you behave as you do nor why it is tolerated here but I now leave you to the ones close to you, or in a position to help you. GOOD-BYE
Peter Horry: (RomneyBOT, erudite but "hit and run" type):

First, I do not care what is in Romney's "Rules for Radicals"
or any other Leftist diatribe beloved by Romney or Obama, nor
for your peculiar fixation on "Devils" and "Alinsky"
as your attack Southern Baptists and FReepers for Romney.
Second, it is you who has taken this out of context
after (trying) to put me down, and after you rely
on one of the Communist credos and rulebooks you live by,
only then do you finally admit that I was correct, and that you
had blamed the GOP loss on a "hurricane" threat.
Third, the record shows you are not honest.
You pushed the hurricane matter even more in your
original post:
Hurricane threat? or attacks on Gov. Palin?
Hmmmmmmm. Hmmmmmmmm. Hmmmmmm.
I predict you are gutless and will not answer again
but here are the urls showing those attacks, Mr. Horry.
Comments? [... sound of crickets...]
Please favor us with an explanation to excuse
Mr. Romney ... for doing nothing. [... sound of crickets...]
"Frum ... a critic of Palin (called) her nomination a "huge mistake" October 13 (2008)"
"the Palin Leaker from the McCain Campaign?
... was Nicolle Wallace's husband."
"Peeking Out From the McCain Wreckage: Mitt Romney"
"Someone's got to say it: IS MITT ROMNEY RESPONSIBLE FOR OBAMA'S VICTORY?"
"Vanity: Team Romney Sabotaged Palin and Continuing to Do So?"
The utter failure to argue by Peter Horry (Team Romney, Captain)
in Post #85 in response to eg. Posts #67, 81 and 84
indicates that he/they/Mitt Romney has lost the argument.
The specious, bizarre claim of RomneyBOTs that
the GOP lost the election because of a "hurricane threat"
to which Candidate McCain stumbled was shown in Post #84 to
be a claim like the "walk with Martin Luther King".
"Fatetur facinus qui judicium fugit", so after the goofy
Horry response in Post #85 demonstrates that
the latest idea of TeamRomney is DOA, and shown to be
another manufactured hallucination or a lame attempt
at 'plausible deniability'.
I like the old Mitt, when at least he took a stand and said there were some Republicans he found outside the pale, Reagan and HW Bush. Since then he’s been as decisive as a gay florist at a flower show.
I have said this before but will do a recap on Gov. Romney.
I knew who Romney was but had never paid him much attention until the primaries. I also voted for him in the primary because I felt he was best candidate of those available. I also have stated that my idealogy was closer to Fred Thompson but I didn’t think he would make the best president.
I also have no real interest in Romney now (am perplexed as to why so many have made him their focus), but am very interested in some issues that surround discussion of him. I also think these inssues should be the focus of the posts that include Romney, instead of these endless threads which seem to have no purpose but to mount personal attacks on Romney as well as other posters they target.
The top four (all governors) candidates I would like to see in the next campaign are Barbour, Riley, Jindal and Palin..... In that order. I have also posted that this is a preliminary list and means very little... Sanford would have once been on my list.
One other thing I gave consideration to in 2008 was how Pres. Bush had been treated in the previous eight years. Any Republican elected in that general election would be receiving the same treatment Pres. Bush was subjected to. That wiil also be the case for any Republican elected in 2012. We must also consider who can best deal with these attacks.
Pres. Bush, like all presidents, made errors and had lapses in judgement but I think the way he is perceived, even here, is largely due to the relentless campaign against him. I think everyone should post rule 13 (Rules for Radicals below) by their monitor and (when posting) ask themselves, even if the post is about Romney, if they are being influenced by these tactics or if their comments are valid.
“13) Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it (Alinsky 1972: 130). This is perhaps Saul Alinskys most controversial rule and is the counter to the common idea that we should not make things personal. When pursuing the changes in the inheritance law for paintings he targets one individual. He will often find out who the CEO is in a company and hound that person. In the organophosphates debate it is one scientist that he targets and the validity of his findings. “
Also. Unbelievable the hypocrisy, is it not?
Peter Horry should have noted that Mr. RomneyCARE
when Gov., when not SCREWING the Massachusetts citizens
between imposing his personal will re: gay marriage and RomneyCARE,
also acted against President Bush while
bringing the previous thriving Massachusetts economy to its knees.
Fred was my first choice as a personality.
I’ve just picked up the book, ‘Game Change’ by Heilemann, about the ‘08 election. I’ll be posting a couple of pages about Mitt and his inabilities, which for me, a ten year, cynical of all politicians until disproved, didn’t surprise me. I’ll post it Sunday morning and give you a heads up.
Mitt is, and has been the GOP Central Committee for superficial change to the status quo.
I like Mitch Daniels and love Rick Perry. Perry has no intention of running for President from everything I hear.
Think Mitch Daniels would make an extremely good candidate. I could easily get behind his candidacy.
Over at Redstate, I had an encounter with Mittens claiming Slick Willard was to the Right of Dubya on all things and claimed Mitch Daniels was a big spender/Tax hiker. The Mitten trolls are out in force trying to shut out other alternatives.
