Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is warning the tea party activists to not run third party candidates that would divide Republican voters and waste opportunities for the GOP.
Romney said in an interview with Newsmax posted on the conservative outlets website Monday night that he was pleased the conservative grassroots movement is silent no longer.
The likely 2012 GOP presidential candidate cautioned though that while he supports the idea of conservative challenges in GOP primaries, third party tea party-backed candidates in the general election could be disastrous.
Divide and fail is the result, Romney said of third party challenges. That would hand over the country to [President] Barack Obama and [House Speaker] Nancy Pelosi and [Senate Majority Leader] Harry Reid, and that would be very sad indeed.
While Romney urged caution for the general election, the former governor indicated that has no problem letting the party sort out its divisions in primaries.
Asked about libertarian Rep. Ron Pauls (R-Texas) place in the GOP, Romney said we welcome his participation in our party, adding were a big-tent party.
Romney also wouldnt take sides in the Senate primary fight in Florida between Gov. Charlie Crist and former state House Speaker Marco Rubio.
I like both of those individuals. I havent decided whether to endorse one or the other or neither, but I hope whoever wins the primary is able carry on very effectively in the general election, Romney said. We need more Republican senators in Washington very badly right now.
UP YOURS, MITTENS!
Romney always threatens -— and his agents deliver.
Threats, dirty tricks, probably much much worse.
Romney is reprehensible for this. Shame on him,
and shame on the GOP which will die forever if it picks him.
BTTT
Yeah I’ve had my fill of RINOs and those who defend them. I fail to see how I’m better off with a republican forcing liberalism and marxism down my throat.
Here in Michigan it was a “republican” who introduced the bill that forced the unionization of home care workers. There were 7 other “republicans” who went along with the scam in return for SEIU money and support. Michigan’s newest state senator was even given 4 SEIU members to work on his campaign full time.
Woo hoo republicans won. [/sarc]
A couple of people at Politico used to be around Romney so their saying he is the nominee is blowing smoke. Not going to be any of the leaders right now IMHO.
We need fresh blood to run like Pence, McDonnell, Pawlenty, and others. I want someone who can give an interview and you know what they say is what they mean.
I wonder where we’d be if all the whiners and complainers who go on and on and on and on...and on...about RINOs like Romney and McCain would use even half of that energy to help work to ensure that the RINOs didn’t get nominated in the first place? Face it folks, if you’d rather complain that work, you’re doing nothing but creating a self-fulfilling prophecy.
It still strikes me as amazing that McCain got the nomination last time.
It would be far worse if Romney got the nomination this time around.
I am, however, starting to sense a movement in the MSM media coverage towards urging Romney on conservatives as the “inevitable” candidate. They’re not going to go so far as to blatantly support him. They will just refrain from dragging him down while at the same time expending every effort they can to denigrate and destroy genuine conservatives.
It’s their optimum solution and it definitely worked with McCain. Destroy any serious rivals to their fall guy, and then destroy the fall guy once he gets the nomination.
We need to get Romney OUT. And we need to do it FAST.
Pence needs to win statewide first. McDonnell just got sworn in. Pawlenty, maybe.
How about Mitch Daniels of IN or Rick Perry ot TX?
Amen.
Exactly! And as you point out, it's the same kind of strawman that the Libs are throwing out about the Tea Party Movement to split it! It's a Movement not a Party.
Hey, Slick Mitt, go elsewhere. We're not buying!
“are too stubborn or stupid to vote to keep a dangerous socialist out of the Presidency.”
There is little to choose- either keep the dangerous socialist or get the hazardous one. Either way, conservatives don’t win.
How about Team Romney's savage attacks on Gov. Palin over and over and over and over and over and over (still ongoing, aren't they?)
The McCain/Palin ticket was up ++8 to 10 pts. in some polls, days prior to the election.
So rather than helping the GOP, poor loser I am Myth Romney and
TeamROMNEY decided
to attack Gov. Palin (and her defenseless children) to throw Election2008.
The Palmetto Scoop reported: "One of the first stories to hit the national airwaves was
the claim of a major internal strife between close McCain aides and the folks handling his running mate Sarah Palin."
"Im told by very good sources that this was indeed the case and that a rift had developed, but it was between Palins people and the staffers brought on from the failed presidential campaign of former Gov. Mitt Romney, not McCain aides."
"The sources said nearly 80 percent of Romneys former staff was absorbed by McCain and these individuals were responsible for what amounts to a premeditated, last-minute sabotage of Palin."
aides loyal to Romney inside the McCain campaign, said The Scoop, reportedly saw
that Palin would be a serious contender for the Republican nomination in 2012 or 2016, which made her a threat to another presidential quest by Romney.
Erick Erickson, who organized Operation Leper, said:
"These staffers are now out trying to finish her off
.hoping it would ingratiate themselves with Mitt Romney."
Who benefits most from Sanford meltdown? Californian (that's right) Mitt Romney
"Peeking Out From the McCain Wreckage: Mitt Romney"
"Someone's got to say it: IS MITT ROMNEY RESPONSIBLE FOR OBAMA'S VICTORY?"
"Vanity: Team Romney Sabotaged Palin and Continuing to Do So?"
"Romney Supporters Trashing Palin"
"Romney advisors sniping at Palin?"
That was McCain and Palin, obviously.
Sorry Mitt, it's YOU and other RINO's and the GOP that will usher in more leftist politicians just like you did in NY 19The likely 2012 GOP presidential candidate cautioned though that while he supports the idea of conservative challenges in GOP primaries, third party tea party-backed candidates in the general election could be disastrous.
Divide and fail is the result, Romney said of third party challenges. That would hand over the country to [President] Barack Obama and [House Speaker] Nancy Pelosi and [Senate Majority Leader] Harry Reid, and that would be very sad indeed.
Romney has been running for 2012 since the day he dropped out of the race in 2008
His henchmen have been working behind the scenes (like McCain's did-are still?) to destroy Palin and at the same time Conservatism in the USA
Give it up Romney, the TEA Party Movement isn't going to listen to you.
Or take the blame for the "it's my turn to run" GOP attitude. Dole, McCain,Romney huh-uh we're mad as hell and aren't going to take it any more!
I am not for Romney!
That said we dont need to lie about what he said!
Not bloody likely. Why don't we have some primary elections first, before this flaming RINO commie pissant claims the nomination.
Whenever anyone mentions that the “Tea Parties should not go 3d Party”.....they are supporting Liberal RINOs GOP candidates for office.
No one who supports true conservatives for office never mentions that Tea Parties should not run 3d Party candidates. It is only those who want Liberal RINOs to run in the GOP.
