Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is warning the tea party activists to not run third party candidates that would divide Republican voters and waste opportunities for the GOP.
Romney said in an interview with Newsmax posted on the conservative outlets website Monday night that he was pleased the conservative grassroots movement is silent no longer.
The likely 2012 GOP presidential candidate cautioned though that while he supports the idea of conservative challenges in GOP primaries, third party tea party-backed candidates in the general election could be disastrous.
Divide and fail is the result, Romney said of third party challenges. That would hand over the country to [President] Barack Obama and [House Speaker] Nancy Pelosi and [Senate Majority Leader] Harry Reid, and that would be very sad indeed.
While Romney urged caution for the general election, the former governor indicated that has no problem letting the party sort out its divisions in primaries.
Asked about libertarian Rep. Ron Pauls (R-Texas) place in the GOP, Romney said we welcome his participation in our party, adding were a big-tent party.
Romney also wouldnt take sides in the Senate primary fight in Florida between Gov. Charlie Crist and former state House Speaker Marco Rubio.
I like both of those individuals. I havent decided whether to endorse one or the other or neither, but I hope whoever wins the primary is able carry on very effectively in the general election, Romney said. We need more Republican senators in Washington very badly right now.
Well, Mitt, if the choice is you or 3rd party for 2012 ...
I would rather wrap my lips around a shotgun and pull the trigger, before I vote for that POS.
Mitt can kiss my ass if he brushes his teeth first.
Myth Romney, has anyone seen those articles about his book tour and all the crowds he isn’t drawing, the people standing in line for several minutes to get a free signed copy of his book about himself.
Up yours you McCainiac! I’m tired of being warned by these freaks.
That tent got a lot smaller because real Conservatives no longer call themselves Republican, recognizing that the RINO has taken over.
Well, Mitt, if the choice is you or 3rd party for 2012 ...
I guess we’ll have to wait another 4 years....because I’m not going to vote for Mitt and feel like crap like I did when I voted for McCain.
The likely 2012 GOP presidential candidate cautioned though that while he supports the idea of conservative challenges in GOP primaries, third party tea party-backed candidates in the general election could be disastrous.
In most cases, this is correct. The solution is for the GOP to support conservatives.
Speaking of a nutjob. Mcshame needs to away. I thank him for his service. But the dis-service he has done to us since is pi$$ing me off. Commie little ba$tard.
Party First, Conservatism Last. It’s the GOP way.
I’ve been to every national Tea Party. I met people from all walks of life. Rich, poor everything. Freedom loving Americans that have nothing in common except a love of their country. That freedom is what brought these people together. I know first hand that the last thing tea partiers will allow is to have this yo yo tell us what to do. We know what we want! And it has NOTHING to do with Mitt!
Our Tea party in the rain last september.

Well, he is a McCain groin leech, so I can understand why you would want him to brush his teeth before kissing your arse.
How the hell can he not have made a decision on those two guys? What an idiot. And to think people pee their pants over his religion. Heck, he is a clueless moron if he does not have an opinion on Rubio who is 30 points ahead of Charlie the gay cowboy.
I’m not a big fan of Romney either, but I have to admit, I don’t see anywhere in the article where he tells Tea Partiers to “vote for him or else,” nor anywhere that he “praises Crist,” other than to say that he likes both candidates in that primary.
Your title comments would seem to be misleading, at best.
“Mcshame needs to go away. I thank him for his service”.
...I thank him for his service too but frankly, I’m tired of talking and hearing about it. Obviously, something snapped after that service which to me, negates his past.
The days of conservatives supporting RINOs are over-that’s how Obama got elected.
Up yours, Romney! I wouldn’t vote for you if you were the last Republican on earth!
Down with RINOS!!
Vote them OUT and keep them OUT!!
Rebellion is brewing!!
