Lawmakers working to craft a new comprehensive immigration bill have settled on a way to prevent employers from hiring illegal immigrants: a national biometric identification card all American workers would eventually be required to obtain.
Under the potentially controversial plan still taking shape in the Senate, all legal U.S. workers, including citizens and immigrants, would be issued an ID card with embedded information, such as fingerprints, to tie the card to the worker.
The ID card plan is one of several steps advocates of an immigration overhaul are taking to address concerns that have defeated similar bills in the past.

Hey...since the proletariat doesn’t like the ID for Workers concept; lets just call them ‘internal passports’.

First it was ALL your medical records, now a “universal” biometric ID. When will these Fascists wise up, there is no way in hell people are going to trust the government with that much private information.
Your papers please?

yep. For now it's just a card to carry. The next step will be to have it subcutaneously implanted in the palm of our hand near the wrist or the back of your hand near the wrist so that only the bar code shows or you can opt for the lovely and tasteful insertion onto your forehead complete with tattoo of your choice. Hopefully someone with Common Sense will object to a card that contains more than your name, address and thumbprint. The black market for forged documents will have their own stimulus given to them.

This is another bait and switch. They CLAIM they are going to set up some kind of fool-proof ID system to prevent illegals from getting jobs. But...they want to pass the amnesty first, right away, immediately, please let us!! and then we’ll work on that ID system. Except that they won’t ever get around to the ID system. Look at DHS’s record in carrying out previous congressional mandates of this sort: the fence, the scanning of incoming freight, the system that allows Border Patrol stations to communicate with each other, access FBI databases and identify criminals, I could go on, but you get my drift. None of it is ever done effectively. They spend billions and it doesn’t work. Those of you who fear this ID plan can rest assured it will never, ever happen as advertised, and it is just one more lie they are willing to tell in order to get their amnesty plan passed. Better to focus on what they are actually trying to do rather that what they say they are trying to do.

Why would an employer ask to see such a card? They are supposed to see a green card now when they hire some one.. but they hire illegals any way.. nothing will change, except law abiding workers will be required to get a card..and illegals will still work getting paid under the table.. janet napolateano (sp) will proclaim the system works..

Instead of keeping criminals out, let’s open the borders and treat everyone like a criminal.

The biometric ID card was in the previous two CIRs in 2006 (Hagel-Martinez) and 2007 (McCain-Kennedy).

Does ANYONE believe this is really about immigration? Immigration is just an excuse for more government control over the people.

Next thing they will require is a special Identification Card for driving a car.

I'm sure they mean this card would be used after all the 20 million or more illegals had been legalized. They sure don't intend to deny the illegals anything. This would just be one more lie they'd proffer to try and convince enough to fall for their latest amnesty now and enforcement later scheme.

Cool. Was this Lindsey Gramnesty’s idea? Cuz green cards, social security cards, driver’s licenses, and E-Verify have just worked so well. This administration has a real knack for pushing America’s buttons. Hey, I’ve found something they do well!

"So far, Mr. Graham is the only Republican to voice interest publicly, and he wants at least one other GOP co-sponsor to launch the effort." So it is mostly just Democrats that want to brand us like cattle.
To: Domandred
The Dems won't want to touch this in an election year, but they know they will lose their majorities. So, when do they plan to do this? After the election in the zombie lame-duck Congress. That way they will give the suffrage to illegals so they can be back in office 2 years hence.

And they once said Social Security would never be used as a means of identification.
