All of my grand parents are buried in California, and my entire extended family still lives there. I'm the only one in the family who smelled the coffee and got out.
Most of them will be there when the whole place comes crashing down, but they're all liberal Democrats, and this is what they've been voting for all these years. My sympathy only extends so far.
A friend of mine (and fellow Freeper) visited Carmel over the weekend, and she tells me that most of the stores there are boarded up and out of business. Scary.
Yikes, that is bad! I remember that Clint Eastwood was the mayor there, wasn’t he? Or was it Monterey? (sp/)Also, Sonny Bono was mayor of Palm Springs, wasn’t he?
Several members of my family live/lived in California, and as I said, I lived there from 1955 (birthdate)until 1962 or maybe 63. I had forgotten that I actually moved in 63, because my brother was born in 61. We moved when he was two years old. My Mom came from Nev., Dad from Utah, then they got married in Nev. and moved to Cali., because he was in the Marines and was stationed there after their marriage.
They started out in Twenty-nine Palms, and then went to Oceanside. That’s when that (once)little Marine training center out in the desert was born and is even bigger than Camp Pendleton now, from what I’ve learned! Then after they left Cali., they went to Maryland, as he was stationed in D.C..
Anyway, I still have some relatives there. Some came over from the the French Basque Country, through Ellis Isl., then to Calif. and Nev. All of those old folks are gone now, of course, and most the ones from my Mom and Dad’s generation are gone. There are still some cousins left, though.
