Daughter of Dick Cheney considering running for office

The daughter of the former US Vice President, Dick Cheney, is considering running for office after emerging as a leading critic of Barack Obama.

Liz Cheney, a mother of five children, has become one of the sharpest and most outspoken critics of the new White House and has needled the Obama administration for failing to protect the nation against terrorism, and mollycoddling terror suspects while pursuing government lawyers who approved water-boarding, a method of inquisition she approves of. She called the president's Nobel Peace prize a "farce".

Pushed by friends and family, Ms Cheney is now reportedly contemplating a run for office herself either in Virginia, where she was raised, or in Wyoming, her parents' home state.

A former senior state department official on the Middle East, the 43-year-old has already attracted favourable comparisons with as a more substantive version of Sarah Palin, another conservative working mother.

"She's likely to seek office," was the judgment of Karl Rove, the former chief adviser to George W Bush.

"I'd love to see her run for office someday," said her father, 69, recently. "I think she's got a lot to offer, and it's been a great career for me, and if she has the interest, and I think she does, then I would like to see her embark upon a career in politics."

In 40 television appearances in the past year, Ms Cheney has robustly defended her father against criticism that he was the sinister force behind war on terror policies that subverted the norms of American justice, arguing that he and Mr Bush did nothing illegal and kept the country safe after 9/11.

Alan Simpson, a former Wyoming senator and old friend of the Cheneys, told New York magazine: "They were hurt, Liz especially. There's always the feeling of the unfairness of

God help her then.

I agree. She has the health and Mommy & Daddies backbone. Hope she jumps into the fray.

“”If she supports gay marriage, gays in the military and sodomy like the McCains and her parents then I cannot support her.””

Her sister is a Lesbian if I’m not mistaken but I would support her candidacy. We can’t turn our backs on the incredibly smart and articulate people available and focus on one issue. We’ll get nowhere!!!

But not Virginia..far better off in Wyoming.

She's lived in Virginia for most of her adult life, so she has roots there. Webb is up for re-election in 2012 so he'd be a natural opponent for her. Wyoming already has two Republicans - Enzi and Barrasso - and neither one seems to be in the retiring mood.

She certainly has a lot of Dick in her, but her Mom (Lynn)was one hell of a conservative voice in her day on TV.

She has plenty of time. She should go for a House seat first. No need to go after a Senate seat right away.

I’ve got my eye on her. I saw in her what I have wanted to see for a long time in any candidate, but especially a Republican Woman. I hope, if a woman gets to walk away with the top prize, she’s the one. I think Sarah is great, but she can do more to rivit people on the issues and travel with great ease and fit in anywhere. Sarah needs to head up the RNC. Michelle Bachman is needed right where she is, but Liz, well, I think she will be a great representative for our party. I know her dad and mother were and are. She’s a natural. Let’s make sure we have men and women of character and strength to guide this nation.

This would be great news. Every time I see her on TV or hear her on the radio I’m struck by how intelligent and lucid she is. She’s very attractive as a person but especially as an articulate and disciplined spokesperson for our side. I’d love to see her eventually run for President. She has so many of the good qualities of both her parents...both of whom I greatly admire!

You must be a newbie if you believe that about many on this site:). They are willing to give O’Bama another 4 years just to teach the Republicans a lesson, whatever that lesson is.

Liz Cheney is articulate and impressive. If she holds views contrary to mine, I haven’t seen her raise them yet.

People are jumping on the Cheney name recognition and not even bothering to actually look at Liz and her background/connections. Those who support Liz better hope people don’t figure out what a bought and paid revolving door lobbyist (Lockheed Martin, for one) husband she has, who put the Dept of Homeland security in a big MESS when he was their head legal council. Philip Perry. Interesting man.

[snip] The Department of Homeland Security refuses to cooperate on oversight activities, according to testimony offered today by GAO Comptroller General David Walker and Homeland Security Inspector General Richard Skinner. The investigators highlighted the role of Philip Perry — Chief Counsel of the Department of Homeland Security and Vice President Cheney’s son-in-law — as the major stumbling block in their investigations.”

I tend to agree. If a person is going to represent 80% of my views as opposed to some Marxist driving us at high speed over a cliff, I will go with the 80%.

I agree with you TYR,as long as we can stop the indoctornization of our children in the schools, I could care less what they do. They will get their justice from a higher power than us.

I would support Liz 100 percent!

However there are some litmus test issues.

Second Amendment

Marriage is one man and one woman.

Man made global warming is a scam.

and other issues are driving in the “debate is NOT over and you will not stop us from working”

Without those non-negotiables the 80% are pointless.
