Sarah Palin's family used to "hustle" across the Canadian border to get healthcare, the former Alaska Governor said this weekend.
In a speech in Calgary, Palin called it "ironic" that while growing up in a small Alaskan town near the Canadian border, her family used to sneak across to take advantage of the Canadian healthcare system.
"We used to hustle over the border for health care we received in Canada," she said, according to Medicine Hat News (via Dave Weigel.) "And I think now, isn't that ironic."
It's ironic, of course, because Palin and other Republicans have argued that Democratic healthcare reform will put the U.S. on the path towards Canada's "socialized" healthcare system.

Wasilla certainly isn’t “near” the Canadian border. Nor is Anchorage. And where would she “sneak” to? Inuvik? Maybe it was in Skagway, when she was a tiny tot?
Also, how old was she? This was evidently when she was a child. Five years old? Ten years old? What, not yet a staunch conservative, who refused to touch nationalized health care?
Good grief. Blame her dad for not being rich.

I just went to the Hill Report and this story is there and also in the index.
How old was she at the time of these excursions in to CA?
That would make more sense. Maybe she was saying that Canada used to have such good healthcare they would sneak over the border. The irony is that they would never do that now.
Probably the context was left out.
It is a speech in Calgary from the site says not a Saturdday Night Live presentation. The Hill Report usually doesn’t print bogus stories. The problem is you don’t know what came before or after the statement. It needs to be put in context.
She spoke in Calgary on March 6th.
What a load...Sarah is too smart to ever say such a thing...just the left ramping up for a major push on single payer health care...and spreading lies to do it.
I’ll wait a few days for this to be clarified. I’ve no doubt there’s more to it not told here.
But it will become gospel to the left, and they won’t care whether it’s true or not. And again, I say this as a person who is not a fan of Palin.
