We caught up with South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint, a hero to many conservative purists and Marco Rubio's earliest big endorsement, while he was in Tampa Bay for the Hillsborough Lincoln Day dinner. He's a fascinating, very down to earth guy giving some leaders in his party fits. But he has also proven himself well ahead of the political curve this year.
On Marco Rubio and the reaction he heard to his support from Senate leaders: "They told me he wouldn't stay in the race, he didn't have a chance, Gov. Crist difference between just going for numbers and going for people who actually believe in something. And it was clear after talking to Marco ... that he was passionate about the principles of freedom and he was ready to take on Goliath. I knew I was getting behind an underdog, but we've got to get some new Republicans there."
On vetting Rubio, Rubio's credit card expenses, and anti-illegal immigrant bill going nowhere when Rubio was House Speaker: "The fact that that's the only thing they could dig up is a pretty good sign, that they're getting desperate and there's not anything there....I think we're on the same page with immigration."
On the RNC fundraising memo found recently in Boca Grande, about raising money by fanning fears about Obama and creeping Socialism:"I saw that. ... I think the progressive philosophy is taking us towards a socialistic economy. I don't know what else you call it if the government owns and controls a large part of your economy.....The way that it was presented as some kind of marketing ploy, I don't like that, but I think there's real substance here.

Demint buckles again PING
Stay away from the Bush!
Sorry Jim, but NO MORE BUSHS!!!
He’s interviewed in Florida by a Florida reporter, so he says some nice things about Jeb. BFD.
Jeb could walk on water, but I can tell you another Bush will not be elected in our lifetime.
no more Bushes
thats’ it..no more.
period.
Wow, you’re an ass.
Putting another “Bush” on the ballot will establish a Marxist government for the next 100 years. No way a Jose’ Jorge’ or Jeb!
Maybe Sarah!!!!
If DeMint’s a rino, we’re doomed...I think this is just a nice comment about a former popular Florida governor.
Well, I guess you could look at it that way. And last week he was being interviewed in SC and said lots of nice things about Grahamnesty? What’s next? An Arizona interview on McCain?
I don’t believe in royalty. I’ll vote for Obama for a 2nd term before I will vote for Jeb Bush.
You should see pissant on the Sarah Palin threads.pppssst he is on Hunters payroll!!!
Lindsey-Tool is his senior senator, and I wish DeMint would have just remained quiet, but senators from the same party often stick-up for one another. It's called politics.
As for McCain, he has publically slapped him twice that I've seen.
1. His endorsement of Romney over McCain in '08. WHACK!!!
2. His refusal to endorse McCain in his race against JD Hayworth. WHACK!
Jeb’s time has already come and went, no one will ever elect another Bush.
I had high hopes for Jim. What is going on, it is time to put politics as usual way way aside and start trying to save our country! It was indeed troubling to NOT see Jim stand with Bunning on the Senate floor against more spending. He stood before the TV cameras so he would be on record with voters, but not where it mattered. Are there no patriots in Congress? Send em all home.
Is there anyone left in congress worth listening to???
No, Mr. DeMint, no more Bush’s!
Thomas Paine talked about this in Common Sense.
Political dynasties..
OF MONARCHY AND HEREDITARY SUCCESSION
“But it is not so much the absurdity as the evil of hereditary succession which concerns mankind. Did it ensure a race of good and wise men it would have the seal of divine authority, but as it opens a door to the foolish, the wicked; and the improper, it hath in it the nature of oppression. Men who look upon themselves born to reign, and others to obey, soon grow insolent; selected from the rest of mankind their minds are early poisoned by importance; and the world they act in differs so materially from the world at large, that they have but little opportunity of knowing its true interests, and when they succeed to the government are frequently the most ignorant and unfit of any throughout the dominions. “
I’ll take DeMint over Barry Obama and John McAmnesty any day.
Just read the whole article. I think you are right. But I still say he needs to go just as far out on the limb to stop the insanity in Congress. Bunning proved any Senator can hold up any bill they want. Why does Jim not want to hold up more if he is what he says it is. It is time for “decorum” to go flushed instead of the Constitution.
The next couple of years will be interesting, to say the least. I will never vote for the Bush/Romney wing of the party again, I can tell you that.
