Saw the answer to my own question! My Dad was the naval technical director on that movie! Cary Grant was so professional. He came to my Dad for inspection every day they were shooting. Wanted his uniform just so and his acting consistent with what a good sub commander would exhibit.

That is a 1957 movie so it took 53 years for the liberals to make it (woman on submarines) a reality
