Sarah Palin turns stand-up comedian, outshining a rigid Mitt Romney (Sarah:Charming Mitt: Dull)
The Sunday TImes ^ | March 7, 2010 | Christina Lamb

At first sight it was no contest. On one channel Sarah Palin, the poster-girl of the American right, was wowing audiences with her first routine as a stand-up comedian. On a rival chat show Mitt Romney, the early frontrunner for the Republican nomination in 2012, was delivering such dull fare that his host yawned.

Writing a book and promoting it on late-night television have become an integral part of a presidential campaign launch. It certainly worked for Barack Obama.

For Romney, the tactic seems to have backfired. He may be ahead of Palin in the opinion polls. But 5.8m people tuned in to watch her on the Tonight Show last week, compared with 3.7m for his appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman...

When Letterman asked about his late father, a former head of American Motors and governor of Michigan, Romney went into a long ramble about his “character and integrity”.

When Leno asked Palin about her father, she replied: “My dad — he’ll tell me what kind of ammunition to use.”

At one point Letterman seemed to yawn as he listened to Romney, a committed Mormon and former investment banker. “I don’t know what any of that means,” he said after one opaque answer.

Romney, who failed to shine in the 2008 primaries to choose his party’s candidate for the White House, was later asked about losing the ratings battle. “I need to get better material,” he quipped.

“Romney hopes to be seen as a safe pair of hands”

WHICH WOULD STRANGLE THE LIFE BLOOD RIGHT OUT OF CONSERVATIVES AND THE REPUBLICAN PARTY.

Not “no thanks,” but “HELL NO.” Not again, Romney. Save your money and spare us from your liberal ways.

Sarah is genuine. She is wholesome. She represents the majority of us because, simply put, “she *is* one of us.”

I’ve had a military carrer (sp, yikes!) and have fought in a war. Not only that, I can fly Air Force One by myself. Ahh...give me a first officer.

Can I be Your President?

“All my Marine relatives would rather have Sarah Palin as their commander in Chief”

So would I.

However, the talking point is what I was contesting. Sort of playing devil’s advocate because it’s a talking point I haven’t used because I don’t know how to defend it.

I know there has to be some validity to it, because people on here are not stupid.

Not only does Governor Palin outshine the Mitter as a talk show guest, but her history of achievement far outshines that of governor Romney’s. No matter how you look at it, she is refreshing and right. He is a bore and left of center.

Palin HAS experience and charisma. She is also a true conservative.

I feel that many people who dis Palin hve imbibed the MSM koolaid just as they did on Bush.

I hear Bush Bashers spew MSM soundbites based on nothing but hate.

Personally, I am tired of the elite attitude that they are better, more intellectual, more analytical, wiser, more knowledgeable because they attended Harvard, Princeton, Bryn Mawr, etc. They actually haven't a clue about sooo many experiences of mid America; they have no knowledge of history or the Constitution; they just KNOW they are smarter and better spoken (O's corpseman-for corpsman aside).

I'm d@#n sick and tired of them and of all the Palin bashers who can't see her worth because she graduated from Idaho.Mittster will not make it--too many things against him. One is the MA public health that he brought in--a disaster of rising costs.

Romney’s not an amateur although he’s probably no great stand up comic.

I believe I mentioned I wasn’t impressed by Romney. So, your point would be?

Dude, I don't care if you like Romney or not, but you should really cut the "I'm not impressed with Romney because he is no comic", BS.

Okay?

Saganite is putting Palin down because she is a Christian with the sense to use her Bible knowledge to run the country.

This is true of just about all the PDSers here. - Transparent as Hell, and headed there at breakneck speed.

I thought the juxtapostion in the article of the answers about the two father spoke volumes.

I saw that. Her audience went through the roof with that answer. It illustrates so perfectly why she makes the 'rat scum's heads explode, and why they can't lay a finger on her, now that she is out from under the blight of the McCain traitors--Romney is the usual manufactured product. Palin is authentic.

I’m not impressed with either one. I’m hoping for a conservative candidate with experience AND charisma. Don’t ask me who that is. I’ll know him/her when I see them.

When I think of Romney I think back to the GOP debate in Iowa. The famous “Show of Hands” question. What an embarrassment.

Moderator Question, “Show of hands if you think Climate Change is a serious threat and caused by human activity?”
Watch Romney, McCain, Rudy, and it looks like Huckabee all raise their hands before Fred Thompson saves their butts wit the we are playing hands here, response.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAYtC_jcK1U

I tried to like Romney, I really did, but if you closed your eyes during those debates and just listened to the answers he gave , they were just awful. He was not winning me over, or anyone else.

yeah when your man loses to a “girl” that is about all you can say on the matter I guess. First, Mitt loses to Ron Paul on Mitt’s own turf at CPAC (ROFLMAO!) and now he loses to a girl on national TV. Stick a fork in Mitt he is done. Anyone that gives him money might as well throw it away, he will be out of the campaign before super Tuesday.

America will never elect a fatcat CEO like Mitt in this environment. Wall Street and DC have the same anger directed at them form the same people. Crony capitalism has destroyed Mitt's chances.

“I’m not impressed with either one. I’m hoping for a conservative candidate with experience AND charisma.”

You want Charisma? Are you blind? or do you Have ave short term memory loss, Or maybe watch too much ABC News and believe what you hear?

How about the VP candidate who's convention speech drew a larger TV audience than both Presidential candidates, Obama and McCain? That has never been done by any VP candidate and it probably never will again. How much more charismatic do you want your candidate?

...but am not at all interested one way or the other whether he would make a great stand up comic. It is a sign of how shallow politics is becoming when we are comparing the chances of two potential Presidential candidates based on how they perform as stand up comics on late night shows.

Do you really and honestly think that the people here on this thread are supporting Sarah solely because she was more likable on late night TV?

Seems to me, being likable while one is communicating on TV is just one of many skills needed to be president. I really do think that the Sarah supporters on this thread, understand that.

Romney. If he was any good we would have picked him last year. BTW don't turn blue holding your breath waiting for the perfect candidate.

How tiresome.
