President to Meet With Key Senators On Immigration (Why should we do this during a recession??)

President Barack Obama plans to focus attention on immigration next week by meeting at the White House with two senators crafting a bill on the issue.

White House spokesman Nicholas Shapiro said Obama will meet with Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York and Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina on Monday.

The president is "looking forward to hearing more about their efforts toward producing a bipartisan bill," Shapiro said Friday.

The meeting will be the first Obama has had with Schumer and Graham on the proposal they are developing since they began focusing on it last year.

Immigration has taken a back seat to the economy and health care on Obama's agenda since he took office just over a year ago. Immigrants and their advocates — promised by then-candidate Obama that he would tackle the issue in his first year as president — have been growing frustrated by the inaction.

Several community groups planned to vent some of that frustration in a news conference Monday in Washington. The groups also are trying to organize tens of thousands of people from around the country for a March 21 demonstration in Washington.

"The president's commitment to fixing our broken immigration system remains unwavering," Shapiro said.

The only reason to do this now is to get more votes for the Dems this November.

Why is he not doing things to help those without jobs and instead allowing those taking jobs away from Americans to get a free pass??

Because immigration is more important than jobs.

Health legislation is more important than the economy.

Global warming is more important than jobs.

Get it?

Anything is more important...

As I’ve said for over a year, their blatant arrogance and condescension is owing to the fact that the ace up their sleeve is amnesty.

This has been part of their plan all along.

Moderates and independents, reacting to the anti-Bush and anti-Republican blitzkrieg for 8 years voted the communist into the White House.

They pushed as much communist policy as they could. They kept a good portion of the “emergency” TARP funds aside to spend in Democrat districts for the midterms. But, all the while, they’ve been planning on amnesty to compensate for the backlash-vote they knew to expect.

If socialist medicine and/OR amnesty goes through, we’re done.

For years we have been told that these illegals contributed greatly to our economy. If that were true, we should completely open the borders and all our economic problems would vanish, but I suspect you are more correct in that it has more to do with swelling the dem voter rolls.

I just read the speech that Geert Wilders gave at the British Parliament yesterday. IMMIGRATION needs the brakes put on. His speech can be found here: http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/

There are other reasons to do this as well. For example, it further helps load-up and burden us with entitlements. It sends a welcome message to existing criminaliens, that although you might be inclined to go home now with unemployment passing 12% in some states (CA), please don’t and stay... look, we will make it worth your while to hang on a bit longer. Also, it allows dems to take a short breather from HCR, to stoke fires elsewhere... and then they can return to HCR and stoke it furthur as well.

Since Obama and his co-conspirators claim there are between 12,000,000 to 20,000,000 illegal aliens working in this country I am sure the meeting is to get rid of all Illegal Aliens and replace them with Unemployed AMERICANS.

The Illegals could run to 40,000,000.

This is the most Ignorant, incompetent and useless administration ever in our Government.

That's what they are counting on. They have the TARP money to be used for this crap. We have our wallets. Once they have drained our wallets our only recourse for this crap will be measured in mm or hundredths of an inch.

Not much of an ace when amnesty draws even greater opposition than the health care bill.

Of course, it’s every illegal’s US Constitutional right to be able to vote for the RAT candidate.

Yeah, but they have Graham and that gives them the ability to do it anyway.

They don't care what we think.

Typical "liberal" tactic: when they start to lose an argument or debate, they switch the focus, change the topic.

Remember, in the past year obama's "focus" has been at various times (in no particular order):

Etc. etc. Some people call this the ADHD administration. No, they're just looking to advance their socialist, big-government agenda on any and all fronts. When they meet too much resistance, they move on. That is because they really don't care about any of these issues, America, or Americans. What obama cares about is his narcissistic, elitist, fascist, socialist vision for a changed America.

obama: un-American, anti-American. Not my President, never will be.

Is odumbo trying to have Republican majorities in November? This way he has an excuse for his being a failure in Nov 2012?

I don’t know but its a stupid move on his part. Even Debbie Stabenow voted no on amnesty last time around.

It's going to take several Dims in opposition to amnesty to defeat it. McCain, Graham and Kyl will all support amnesty (unless Kyl flip flops again and opposes it). Several Dims opposed it in 2006 and 2007, but there are even more of them now.

Some people say this has no chance because it's an election year. I hope they're right, but am not so sure.

Exactly. The idea is to get the Dem base energized. It is like pulling the race card. Every election cycle the Dems raise the issue of the Confederate flag. This is the equivalent. Get the Reps on the record against amnesty and paint them as racists, bigots, and nativists. It also serves to divert and distract from issues like jobs and the growing national debt.
