Hollywood to remake "Police Academy". FR's dream cast?

New Line is looking for recruits for a relaunched "Police Academy" movie. Original producer Paul Maslansky is back for the new iteration, which has no writer or director attached.

"Academy" was a seven-film lowbrow comedy series from Warner Bros. that saw a city throw open the doors of its police force to any recruit, much to the chagrin of its serious officers. The misfit officers band together and, of course, save the city.

The first film, released in 1984, starred Steve Guttenberg as Mahoney, a repeat offender who is forced to enter the academy and emerges as the group's leader. Other notable characters included Moses Hightower (Bubba Smith), gun-crazy Tackleberry (David Graf), mousy Hooks (Marion Ramsey) and sound effects-spewing Larvell Jones (Michael Winslow).

Wow, I can't believe they're remaking this.

That said, I thought it might be fun to see who FR would cast in the remake.

Here's my list: Mahoney Paul Rudd Hightower The guy from The Green Mile Tackleberry Vince Vaughn Callahan Scarlett Johansson or Christina Hendricks Hooks Chloe from 24 Jones Tracy Morgan or just bring back the original guy Zed Bring Bobcat back Sweetchuck The same guy, or McLovin from SuperBad Cpt. Harris ? Proctor ? Lassard ?

thoughts?

OK, I'll play along, although I have assiduously avoided watching the Police Academy movies, so I can only go by the descriptions...

Other notable characters included Moses Hightower (Bubba Smith): How about the big guy from The Green Mile (I looked him up...John Coffey)

gun-crazy Tackleberry (David Graf): Howard Dean

mousy Hooks (Marion Ramsey): Zooey Deschanel

and sound effects-spewing Larvell Jones (Michael Winslow): Barak Obama.

How funny, I just read the other posts and someone else picked the same guy. And I still like my choice of Howard Dean as well for the remake.

Isn't remaking Police Academy a sign of the Apocalypse?

My thought is they need to make new movies instead of remaking old ones. Creativity, anybody?

My brain hurts just thinking about who should star in this re-make. Are they going to be doing a re-make of “Porkys” as well? Nothing like a low-brow comedy to remind me of my misspent youth. When I was 19, I thought that “Fast Times At Ridgemont High” was the greatest movie ever made.
