Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) believes his colleague Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) is getting a bad rap from state Republicans who have attacked Graham over his work on climate change legislation and other splits with conservatives.
Graham in recent months has been censured by two county Republican parties in South Carolina, where some activists are upset with his efforts to craft a climate and energy bill with Sens. John Kerry (D-Mass.) and Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.).
The county activists also attacked Graham for his views on immigration and supporting the 2008 Wall Street bailout, among other stances.
DeMint is among the Senates most conservative members and splits with Graham on the bailout, climate change and other issues. But he strongly defended Graham in an interview with The Hill on Thursday.
I think he got a bad rap, DeMint said when asked about the attacks on Graham back home. There are a lot of people up here who are the problem, but it aint Lindsey Graham.
DeMint said Graham is a great partner in the Senate and one of the few people with enough courage to stand up for things such as tax and social security reform.

There are political power brokers behind both in SC and I think they are the same. I was surprised Lindsey was reelected after his Amnesty blowback.
I know SC has an old boy network that is very strong and goes back generations.
I think the powers that be in SC whoever they are have pronounced Lindsey as one of their golden ones, and they want Demint to chime in harmony with their music.
And believe it or not many pols do not have the background info that we here on FR have on RINOs like Romney. They and their staff see what is said ***today***, and they look to the RNC and other high level republican chatter, then they make statements.
IOW they are not always in touch and even if they are in touch they may find it less than enhancing to point out the hypocrisy of powerful well-funded RINOs.
I like the ones that stay silent.
I do not understand why Palin was not silent other than she is on the circuit for catching dollars in preparation for a large role in the future. I suspect some party brass looked at her and said they expected everyone to blow kisses at McCain.
I still don’t like it though.
They are in an enviornment that is surreal. To a conservative in that environment, Miss Graham is toning down the global warming radical thing that came out of the House in a bi-partisan hut. DeMint is releived.
But the problem he does not see is that giving the Left an inch on the validity of global warming is giving them a mile for future oppressive action at the UN, in the Congress, the courts and at EPA. Immediate gradification for Demint: kill the radical bill. Long term consequences: Give global warming the foot in the door for “progressive” legal and mainstream power.
So no, it is horrible for Repubicans to join the Left in condoning the scam of global warming.
Yeah but we need to keep the heat on them. We need them to ‘feel’ it’s Ok to be 100% conservative and that it is in their political best interest to surround themselves with died-in-the-wool conservatives.
Keep firing at them, never give ‘em a break!
Did you see that Ann Coulter winked at ‘Birthers’?
Did Birthers back down? Did they give a pass to those that insulted them? No! And now the punditry is starting to come around.
Same with Fred, Sarah, and Demint on bedrock conservative beliefs. Never let them feel they can get away with turning their back on us! Never! Keep them on the straight and narrow!
Change of order
Hunter/DeMint.

This is DeMint returning to his roots!
But not by anyone that knows his record.
Uh Oh!
At this point, all I know about DeMint is that he started the Obama waterloo thing, and he has a reputation for being a reliable conservative.
But these comments about Gramnesty put his reputation in serious doubt.
I didn't either, but I read the whole damn thing.
Lindsey's the senior senator, but Jim DeMint could have kept quiet, couldn't he? No need to answer. :)
