This normally leads to warfare.
While it's easy to speculate that China would create an army out of them, I tend to think not. First, it would be ruinously expensive to build, and even more ruinously expensive to maintain an army like that.
Second, it's difficult to imagine China finding a use for them that doesn't end up causing more problems than it solves. Invade Russia or India? To what end?
Finally, the soldiers aren't robots -- they'd know that they're cannon fodder, and would eventually take umbrage.
No, my guess is that one way or another they'll all be used up in China's next civil war, to which this gender imbalance will inevitably lead.
I have had several frineds who have adopted black boys for that very reason.
They are the hardest to place.

I’ll add some reality to this thread. While baby-killing is murder anywhere on earth, I am appalled by the Economist wailing about it. Liberals are the biggest criminals on earth when it comes to murdering children. In third world countries, they do this in slums because they are truly terrified of raising a girl and they see boys as breadwinners from the age of 7 or 8. OTOH, liberals do it for pleasure and to make a point. While it is murder in both cases and that fact cannot be changed, a jury would award the death penalty to remorseless killers who did it to score a political point and express hatred for Christians while they would not award death to people who felt helpless while carrying out the murder and showed remorse later.

Either that or poster icons for encouraging gay marriage.

Not sure that it only applies to adoption, though I see your point. I have anecdotal proof only, but the “sperm washings” to conceive the right sex are primarily done to achieve girls.
In our country, daughters tend to be the caretakers of their parents. While that for sure is not always the case, it is what I have witnessed more often than not. Many of my girlfriends are the ones that take their parents and in-laws to the doctor, visit them when they are shut in or in a nursing home and make many of the long-term care decisions.
I find men to be compassionate in these situations, but often in more practical ways. I found I picked up on nuances with my mom during her last years. My brother never really heard the tone of her voice and the look in her eye, just the words she spoke. And she was always trying to buck up and avoid your pity — so he missed a lot of what was really going on. He was wonderful though in other ways — fixing her things, helping her with finances. We all show love in different ways, but I think a daughter is more apt to be the one helping to change the adult diaper, wipe the drool, change the bedsheets, etc... And we all know we may need that one day.
I have read that educated black women face a challenge to find a husband. Maybe they and the Chinese men could hook up.
That’s all true, but my point is that what ass backward countries choose to do fits in nicely with the liberal tenet that girls aren’t wanted, when, in fact, Americans are lining up and paying top dollar for girls, and don’t want the boys.

They would be part of the gargantuan 200 million man strong army in the closing weeks of the great tribulation (the United States and Russia no longer existent), that would drive all the way westward from China to Israel wreaking destructive havoc, killing about 1/3 of mankind along the way.
By the time the 200 million man army reaches Jerusalem, the Lord Jesus Christ would slaughter the entire 200 million man army in the Slaughter of Armageddon, killing all the troops, cannon and missile operators and pilots, destroying their war material and then crushing the dead Chinese troops like grapes in a winepress.
