CHICAGO - More than a month after the election and all the votes in the republican primary for Illinois governor have finally been counted.
The State Board of Elections has released the official results from the race, and the winner is Bill Brady.
The board has certified that the state senator from Bloomington beat fellow senator Kirk Dillard of Hinsdale by 193 votes.
Dillard has said he would only seek a recount if Brady won by 100 votes or less.
Brady now faces Governor Quinn in November.
That sure won't be enough of a margin of victory for a Republican to beat a Democrat in a general election in Illinois and wind up the winner.
True. But on the other hand, Democrats can’t count beyond fingers & toes . . .
This is good. Brady was a far more preferable candidate than Dillard.
If you go to CNN.com 'election central' (it won't hurt, honest) and look at the election Maps from 2000 or 2004 you'll see that IL is really a Red State. It's Chi and Cook County that throws everything off.
And historically IL has been led by Republicans. From the Governor to State House, and even Senators. What killed the IL GOP was the utter and overt corruption of George Ryan (RINO) whose now in Fed prison. That's how Democrat Blago got elected Gov. and the RATS took the IL Gen Assembly and other offices. Republicans have even been elected Sheriff of Cook County. (granted that goes back a while)
And if the Presidential Election was determined by how many counties a person won in a state, Dubya would have won IL both times in a Landslide.

I concur.
That's IF the IL GOP doesn't sabotage him for being conservative. But if they play their 'he's too conservative for IL BS', Brady's got an uphill climb.
So if they back him, it should be fairly easy.
You've got the IL RCCC all wrong. They don't sabotage people because they're too conservative. They sabotage them because they won't play ball.

*IL politics ping*
Brady finally certified.
(head slapping myself) Thanks for the clarification, I was confused. :-)
Happy to be of service. I bid you a pleasant day.
Let the race officially begin!!!!!!
The unofficial count gave it Brady by over 400 votes. I wonder how the margin was cut to just 193? Oh well.
I love a good anti-climax.
Well Quinn called him a "Fringe Right Winger" so that made me the most excited for a IL GOP Governor ever!
Even though Dillard is a RINO I really have to give him big props for refusing a recount. If Andy McKenna was down by 193 he would go nuts and "find votes".
And for it's worth Dillard gave his full support to Brady no sour grapes in his speech that they showed on the news.
