Yakima kindergartner expelled for making a gun with hands

YAKIMA, Wash.- Manuel Alvarez eats breakfast and gets ready for school. He's eager but nervous. He was expelled Monday from Barge Lincoln Elementary for making a gun with his hands. His mom says it's a hand gesture that could have easily been corrected.

"He didn't know did they talk to him about it what actions were taken to tell him this isn't allowed," Lorena Hurtado, Manuel's mother.

Manuel has a clean record never in trouble before his mother says a warning would have worked or even a parent-teacher meeting. Instead, His mom says, Manuel's afraid.

"I got a call from the School saying he's not raising his hand or speaking up. He's scared after we talked about not doing any gestures, he probably doesn't want to to do it because that could be a gesture. It might get him pulled out for two days," said Hurtado.

Manuel's mom doesn't see anything wrong with her son putting his hands like this and shooting down at the ground. She doesn't think it poses an immediate threat to the school or Manuel's classmates. We took the issue to School District employees and asked them about their policy.

"When students are at school they should be concerned about learning….safety shouldn't be a concern at school, we have a zero tolerance policy," said Dr. John Irion, from the Yakima School District.

Hurtado understands the policy, but in this case doesn't think the punishment fits the crime, especially when the student in question is in kindergarten.

"A five-year-old shouldn't be held to the same policy as a 12th grader...he is in kindergarten," said Hurtado.

Lorena Hurtado is appealing the expulsion and wants to try to clear her son's record. She says she doesn't want her five-year-old to be labeled as a troublemaker.

If you can carry a weapon and pull the trigger you can kill anyone you are pointing it at.

Yesterday morning I had a colonscopy. First things I noticed was a shiny brass plaque just inside the door.

Notice:This facility is a weapon free building.

. This building is not in East LA or Detroit. It is in small town Carson City, NV.

Here is my non-PC translation: "Notice:This facility is a safe-zone for perps and terrorists."

Unless any of you here have kids inn school you have no idea how wacked many teachers are and how nasty many school boardfs are.

I’m in the south...we have a decent principal, some decent teachers, a few ok board members but lots of idiots.

It’s the same hype over guns here too though they would not expell..just admonish.

He’s five years old...there is no context.

This ain’t Mark David Chapman here.

Carrying it and pulling the trigger are two entirely separate things. My kid can carry a 12ga, but there’s no way I’d let him shoot it, and even if I did, I wouldn’t expect him to hit whatever he thought he was aiming at.

1) Not a child mowing down a village with an automatic weapon.
2) Going on a further tangent just proves my point: 5 year-olds with automatic weapons in Somalia mowing down tribes is a falsehood.

If you can't prove your point, that's OK.

You’re way off base.

I’d ask if you have a five year old but you’d likely lie and tell me you have 10 or so.

I worked in Sierra Leone in diamond concession during the wars there...I saw 11-14 year olds with guns.

No five year olds.

That age is too young for one to take seriously making gun hands and threats.

Expelled for that?

If he has behavioral issues then the lazy school and his parents should deal with it.

I have 5 kids...3-7-10-19-21

The schools today are run by silly women who hate guns and they are crazy about this sort of thing anyhow but this action is even worse than standard fare.

It goes on and on...they push race favoritism bigtime too...and they hate white/western culture...one must fight it daily.

Private schools are barely better and very expensive.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the “other” articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

Alright I give up, you GOT me!

I am part of a vast conspiracy on the internet to trick people into believing that small children all over the world are fighting and killing people every day. And my secret group has been posting 1000’s of pictures on the web for over a decade to further our goal.

Just do a image search in google of darfur child soldiers to see just some of the fake images we have made up over the years.

*rolls eyes*

I'm out of this thread.

all but one of those pics are of kids way beyond 5 years old and teaching kids how to hold a rifle and/or shoot is a long way from being a guerrilla or soldier.

all my kids could shoot a .22 long gun or maybe even a .22 SA revolver by 5-6 but that hardly made them Charles Whitman

5 year old is different from a 10 year old. Read your own wikipedia link and you will see that the “child soldiers” are all over the age of 9 or 10.

5 year olds don’t “mow down rival tribes” in Somalia or anywhere else.

Just wondering, do you send your kids to private school? Having grown up in Catholic schools, this kid would not have been expelled in any of the school I attended. Ditto for the Catholic school my kids have attended for the last few years.

I have playground duty about twice a month, and the kids I oversee inlcude my daughter’s kindergarten class. The boys run around playing with finger guns all the time, being rough and tumble, and well, being boys. I have not seen any of the teachers go and yank the kids off the playground and haul them to the principal’s office for doing so.

As for expense, we spend about $500/month for three kids in tuition, on an income of less than $3600/month. For the record, our kids’ school is the most expensive of the three Catholic schools in Fort Smith, so there are even cheaper options if you want Catholic education.

I agree with the rest of your post, but I get tired of seeing private schools being called not much better than public schools and only for the rich. I love my kids too much to dump them out the back door (where the local public school is one street over). I have seen what comes out of the local public schools, and it is isn’t pretty.

Y'all aren't looking at this issue deeply enough. This goes waaaaay deeper than just silly. This is unspeakably evil. Let me give you the benefit of 20 years experience as a public school teacher (15 in an inner city high school) in the 4th largest school district in the nation.

It's not an accident that this happened to a kindergarten child. This is an example of a national agenda in the public schools that's been ongoing for at least 40 years. The goal is to instill submission to government. Unquestioning, instant submission. Especially where it concerns issues of self preservation. The government wants mindless, helpless sheep for it's citizenry.

Case in point: I just now had a student come into my classroom (I'm on planning right now) and hand me a release form to sign because this individual had been in a fight and was suspended. She had complained about her attacker before the fight to the administration. In fact when set upon, my gifted student had tried to walk away from the conflict three times but the attack continued until she was forced to defend herself and as a result she gets a suspension, along with her assailant. This is institutionalizing the psychological concept of Learned Helplessness.

It begins in elementary school and is reinforced in lockstep in every grade and across ALL school districts of any substantial size across the country. I can't speak about a school in small town like Bandera Texas, but I'll bet my bottom dollar it's the policy in Houston and Dallas! Also, Austin for sure.

This is why I'm so certain that this country is not going to make it in the long term. This satanic agenda has been in full force for so many decades that not only is the current generation hopelessly contaminated but so are their parents and grand parents! Where do we get the majority of our armed forces and police when it comes to education? Public schools, of course. Even 99% of the private schools teach the same things and if you don't think so, just trot on down and ask them. Most schools are proud of it! They call it "Conflict Resolution" skills and pre-emptive action to "prevent violence in society." The agenda is reinforced in other ways.

Don't be surprised if your 6th grader comes home and asks if you own any of those evil assault rifles and then don't be mad when your own kid turns you in to the authorities. All part of the plan. Check what your child's school social studies texts say about the Second Amendment and don't expect any changes to be added because of either the Heller or MacDonald cases. Be especially wary of Advanced Placement classes! These take the brightest of the bright and really pour on the propaganda. Then it really gets the FINISHING touches in college.

You won't even recognize your kid when it's all over and you'll wonder where it all went wrong. The answer is: SCHOOL. Keep careful watch on the curriculum and do everything in your power to counteract the agenda which is powerful but not invincible. Taking your family to church and reinforcing that with weekly Bible Study is a great solution to the influences of evil in our lives. Enlist the help of some other Christian parents with whom you are friends and neighbors. Safety in numbers.

I'm not Catholic but did look at Overbrook-St Henry-Father Ryan etc here and it was more than 500/month just for one in elementary....I think was around 9K/year grade school......14K/year secondary...Nashville

I had one boy at PCA...a Presbyterian school near Belle Meade....12K/year...but it was only maybe 20% less PC than Nashville metro

took him out

right now have one in Baptist pre school two days a week 250/month..cheep

2 in public grade school in now more rural area

one in college in Manhattan..she writes her own ticket mostly..just subsidized when needed

one in college here at Lipscomb and head to Law School next year...90% paid by daddy

it is a big ticket

I may opt for private high school here in 9th grade...Battleground Academy..very nice..said to be somewhat conservative and known religious but it's high too....18K

by then law school will be over or almost ...

I figure with 5 kids my total education bill should I survive it mortality wise could be over 1 million dollars easy over a 40 year span...it's already nearly 175K so far the past 4 years

crazy and no school except home is completely unpc...not Harding or Hillsdale or ACU or Lipscomb...it still seeps in a bit

same for private schools Catholic included...Father Ryan has a huge “diversity” scholarship program and is on record as pro amnesty

it sucks to be frank...and my businesses pay huge local taxes each year for jack
